i was waiting for someone else to mention this. thats the oddest making-of i've ever seen. any ideas who the questioners are?
the shakespeare subtitles are genius BTW.
Is this the version with Carol Cleveland saying "Oh this is a lovely scene" and the entire cast taking turns to say "Get on with it." That was cut out of the 1988 CBSFOX VHS release. I didn't know about the scene until I saw it broadcast over the Christmas period. The extras on the DVD sounds brilliant, even though I'm not keen on the "DVD is brilliant because you can get extras" argument. I thought the main point of DVD was you saw a film close enough to celluloid quality. A bit garbled that last sentence but you know what I mean. Oh and they don't chew up. Now I feel a right twat for amassing a large VHS collection. However I'm loathe to depart because in decades to come they'll be seen in the same light as Shellac 78s.
Julian Doyle seemed to be prompting Jones and Palin at various points, as well as being on screen for a few shots.
"Peace, peace! This strained passion doth you wrong. Let's drink together friendly and embrace."

Oh, bugger, I suppose you mean the "on location" bit. Don't know. Lots of very abrupt edits as well.
"He which says the dead is not!"
"Not he which says the dead is not!"
"'Tis so."
Yup. The whole package is excellent. So much to do!
In more DVD news, Family Guy is coming out on DVD soon (whole first season on one DVD! YAY!)
also very weird is the 'directors recce'. if they could get the two terrys in the same room to do that, which is funny but pointless, why didn't they do the film commentary together?
Is this Region 1 or 2?
region 1 only (www.play247.com for £18 - 2 discs)one of the reasons you really need a multi region player because this double disc set is not due for release in the country where it was made. Disgrace.
Although, if your DVD isn't multi-region by default, a swift visit to http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/ might rectify matters.
I'll have to start buying DVDs off the net, since I paid £29.95 at a shop in London today for it. Still, it is definitely a worthwhile package. £18? Ah well.
I've jsut ordered this, and the Seinfeld DVD mentioned in the Seinfeld thread.
This forum is hazardous to my wealth.
I'm going to end up paying £30 for this anyway, as I drunkenly ordered the no-extras version by mistake, and am now going to have to buy the 2 disc one as well.
Actually, does anyone know what the procedure is to return goods to an online shop like Play247 and arrange an exchange? It's something that's not been discussed much regarding web-shopping. Had I bought the disc from HMV, I'd have been able to realise my error, slap my forehead and go back to the shop. Online, you just sit with the wrong DVD in your hand, humming and hawing, not knowing quite what to do about it...

play247.com. But don't get too excited, it's standup, not the show.

I lied. It's actually the first series box set. Three commentary tracks, one with Jerry and George, one with Elaine and Kraner and one with Jerry and producer/director type people. Four hours of previously unseen footage - outtakes/deleted scenes/rushes. Special behind the scenes documentary. Big debate thing in which all politicians and people like that argue about the significance of "The Pony Remark".
Or was I?
Just got the 2 disc Holy Grail.
What a cracker, you're all right.
The Film Night documentary from 1974 is on lovely, crisp, restored film. Are we to assume the couple of jump cuts and occasional missing frames are due to deterioration of the source stock? And, if it's been taken from the original footage, were there originally subtitles explaining who was who? It seemed odd to have producers and so on cropping up unannounced.
Whatever, it's a beautiful package.
CHAPMAN: I'm the set doctor so I have to look after everybody.
INTERVIEWER: Have you had many complaints?
CHAPMAN: About me?
I explored it thoroughly last night, and have to say it contains the first new Python material in years to make me actually laugh, rather than smile grudgingly.
The animations on the menus are brilliant, and the Directors' Recce elicited an audible belly laugh. I hope they pay as much attention to the Meaning of Life when it comes out.
Oh, and it would be nice to make this identical package available in the country of their birth, the shitkickers.

Mine arived this morning, I've just got back from work and started the film playing. It's already brilliant.

You fool, you've been watching Dentist On The Job.

Ah, that explains it. Funny, I didn't think Holy Grail was in Black and White.
i like the bit on disc 1 where you select extras and it says ' for extra features insert disc two. no, in the dvd player, silly'
