I heart 1993 Posted Sat Sep 8 19:41:05 BST 2001 by 'netgit'

after the end of last weeks 'I love 1992', they had an ad for tonights show 'I love 1993'. Why did the ad have clips from KMKY and I'm Alan Partridge? These were 1994, and 1997!

Next week, IL94 features the Blur v Oasis chart battle...of 1995.

Vernon Kay "Yeah! Everyone was on drugs then! Everyone loved East 17, didn't they? Everyone had tattoos! Everyone thinks I'm a talentless shitbag!"

Yes, I too was surprised to hear that drugs and tattoos were invented, along with Steve Coogan, in 1993.

Is there anything more annoying than showing an old advert, pausing it after four seconds, and then CHRIS MOYLES TELLS US WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT FOUR SECONDS OF THE ADVERT FOR NO REASON, BECAUSE THEN WE ARE SHOWN the next four seconds of the very same advert. And then have an advertising executive explain it to us, because our simple 21st century brains would understand what a 'Manchester' is. And what a 'ship canal' are. And stuff.

All this, and no mention of the two major events of 1993. The release of Cannon Fodder for the Amiga, and the release of Front 242's 'Up Evil', 'Off' and 'Angels Versus Animals' pseudo-trilogy. Harumph.

The problem with these 'I love the ninety-whatever' type shows is that events from the early 90s are too recent for them to be synonymous with a particular year. For instance, I believe tonight's I love 1993 was presented by Beavis and Butthead, but they're not identifiable with 1993 at all - just with recent pop culture.

Cos these type of shows are nostalgia fuckwittery for witless gibbons, implemented only to further the careers of Jamie Theakston, Zoe Ball, Gail Porter and other such media buggers. Surely you don't expect them to be historically accurate, do you?

Can't wait for 'I heart 1857'; The Stone Roses storm the charts, while Jesus does an unexpected trick involving bread and fish.

At this rate I Love 1999 will be a list of predictions for the next five years.
