Syd Barrett - pop parodist Posted Thu Sep 6 20:16:20 BST 2001 by Joe4SOTCAA

'Bob Dylan Blues' - included as a tempt-the-completists track on a new Barrett compilation is hot comedy!

There's an MP3 download here:

Yes, it's a fantastic track. Now are they going to find and release 'Living Alone'?

It's a bit cheeky isn't it? Putting one new track on a 'best-of' thing just to make completists buy it. Especially one as famous as that.

We should count ourselves lucky that Dave Gilmour didn't graft an acoustic version of 'Dogs Of War' onto the sod. With a great big fuck-off limited-edition Hipgnosis-designed folding egg-cup prism or something.

Just found this via Google. Interesting:

My friend Luke's Dad works in the press office at EMI and he has said to Luke that BDB will definitely be on the new CD,which will be called "Crazy Diamond, the finest songs of Syd Barrett" (please don't take this as gospel,he does tend to overelaborate a bit!) he even have me a sheet with the lyrics written on it,but I put it in my wallet which I've since lost, along with various bank cards etc etc:-o. as far as I remember it said something like this(vaguely)

(studio chat)
Syd:It's another one, Dave,it's called Bob Dylan.
Dave:Ok Syd,we're rolling so go whenever you want
Syd:it's not got much words,y'know, just things
Dave:Ok Syd.What is it called again?
Syd:Blues,it's blues I guess.
Dave:what was the title?
Syd:Blues.Bob Dylan's Blues!
Dave:Ok Syd,whenever you're ready
Syd:No,it's alright Syd:*coughs*Hmm,Ok

song:
Bob Dylan's Blues
bob dylan's blues I got bob dylan's blues
haven't had a new pair of trousers in ages
my jacket's all creased
my shirt's in a mess
my hair is kinda long
better have a cut
but the barber is shut
bob dylan's blues
I got bob dylan's blues
I don't know what to do
I got bob dylan's blues
my hair's in a mess
and so's my hat but I couldn't give a damn about that...

song goes into long instrumental arrhythmic strumming pattern for a while then stops. That's my memory of how the song went.I'm going to try and persuade my mate into getting me an advance copy of the album but I'm not sure how I'll go with that. If the lyrics prove to be wrong please don't think I'm BSing,it's just hand me down info...I can't believe they're really releasing it,it is so legendary! anyway keep us all posted... Jinder >>

Earlier take or hoax?

I was surprised that the song was so 'together' - old bootleg lyric books only tended to transcribe about three or four lines from it.

Plus overdubbed harmonies?

I can't make out whether it's him or Gilmour doing the harmonies.

Incidentally, anyone got any further Barrett edit news?
