Well, I agree with the first one and a couple of the others. But Wallace and Gromit? Jay and Silent Bob? Snatch?

Still, at least they left out Police Academy IV: Mission to Moscow. (But I bet it's number 51)

Anything with Jay and Silent bob is a laff riot. You seen the new film then, as it is supposed to be extremely funny

No Horse Feathers? It's a much better film than Duck Soup, and I'll pretend I'm going to shake the hand of, but then whisk my hand away, touch the end of my nose with my thumb, open my hand and go 'nyah' at, anyone who says differently.

And Eddie Izzard's Dress To Kill classed as a film? And Holy Grail above Brian? And indeed, many other points which I would make at this juncture, but the forum seems to playing the oaf today, and I can't access the previous postings with leaving this incresingly sprawling and ill-judged posting.

Boh.

And also, be bothered to check for rudimentary spelling errors. Dang.

I've been trying to find a divx of it to download from somewhere, the trailers look wonderful. BUt I've had no look so I might have to wait the nearly 4 months until it comes out here.

I rather liked that list. I didn't agree with much of it, as is always the case, but I got the impression people were voting for films because they genuinely loved them, and not just voting for what they thought they should/had been told they should like. I'm assuming it was a genuinely open vote, too, and not just a pointless "arrange in order of preference this list of films which we have already decided are the best" excercise. Quite refreshing.

It's out in November, apparently. Also, if you have quicktime, you can download it from Apple's website.

Only the trailers, surely? I'm trying to find a divx of the whole film.

I like Kevin Smith too, but how can JASBSB be one of the Top 50 comedy films of all time when it's only been out in America for two weeks? They should preclude films released in the last year.

Mind you, this Top 50 is a bit different as it's constantly updated by voters on the website. So, if we all went and voted Snatch as a 1/10, it would disappear sharpish.

The whole film? I wouldn't know where to start, I'm so good.

IRC, usenet, dodgy warez sites that cover your screen in large pornographic pop-up windows that won't go away...

There was a bootleg VCD on ebay a few days ago. Don't know if it's still there.

Ah, yes it is: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1462207103 . £18 and bidding ends in 23 hours.

Yeah, but you'd need thousands of people voting, with a variety of IP addresses (because they check for vote cramming) and anyway if there was a disproportionately high number of 1/10s they'd mostly be discounted, because they check for that too.

Besides, several of the films on that list aren't really comedies (La vita e bella? His Girl Friday? Almost Famous?). And others have been voted for because they're good films, not necessarily because they're the *funniest* films (hence no Blazing Saddles, Airplane, Producers etc.)

It's an automatically generated Top 50, though, based on the standard IMDB ratings, not like the AFI Funniest Films poll or anything.

So, it'll be interesting but not definitive.

The sort of people who vote for IMDB ratings are either fanatical likers, or fanatical nay-sayers - there's an awful lot of 9/10 reviews for most things, tempered by a few 1/10 "this movie sucks, how can you guys like it?" slaggings.

And, since an unequal number of people voted for each film, it's open to the only two votes for, say, "Man About The House" being 10/10 and upsetting the whole thing, isn't it? (Thinks... must go to IMDB and vote)

I found it an interesting list, though. Very maverick. Lots of "foreign" movies making it in.

La vita e bella is certainly _supposed_ to be a comedy, though placing it ahead of anything by Chaplin or Laurel and Hardy is a bit like saying the Hurricane #1 album is better than 'Revolver'.

Re: Jay and Silent Bob - I've seen it, (at a preview screening that I got to see because of the job I had until getting sacked last week), and it's good but not great. I love J+SB more than anyone, but you really can't stretch that kind of humour out over 90 minutes. Nice to see Jason Lee again, and Randall's in it a few times, and very funny. Dante looks like shit.

It's completely self-referential, and if don't know Smith's back catalogue backwards you'll miss 70% of the humour. In fact, it'd be better as a DVD extra for Chasing Amy than a proper cinema release, but nevermind.
