The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy game had one or two funny bits.
>The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy game had one or two funny bits.
The HHG game was practically a work of prose written by Adams himself. Which is kind of cheating.
(Makes sense in *my* head.)
How about these?
Monkey Island - obviously.
Earthbound (aka Mother Two) - a really, really headfucking RPG that went on forever. It was drawn in the style of Charlie Brown and started off with a terminator fly coming back from the future to save the past, whereupon he gets swatted. There was another amazing scene where a ravening zombie horde is stopped by "Zombie Paper" - think fly paper but... you get the idea.
Skullmonkeys - Claymation genius, very much in the style of They Might Be Giants. Had amazing songs like "Elevated Structure of Terror," and one scene that lives in the hearts of all my friends and I in which the hero shovels baked beans into his face faster and faster until one spoonful goes into his eye socket.
PaRappa The Rapper - rasta frogs. Nuff said. And NaNaOnSha really left the fucking planet with the side-game, UnJammer Lammy.
Sam And Max Hit The Road - there was so much good comedy in this game that it defied belief. It was better than the comic and the TV series put together. I particularly like the scene in which Max starts saying the words "Like fruitcake" in an increasingly desperate voice in response to everything everyone says.
"It is an ancient secret, passed down from generation to generation."
"Like fruitcake."
"Dudes, this is really heavy."
"Like fruitcake!"
"Bruno!"
"LIKE FRUITCAKE!"
A|LL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>...and before anyone starts mentioning such comedy masterpieces as:
>
>"You spoony bard!"
>"WAIT! Don't OPEN, THAT door!"
>"A sick girl from Baron was kept falling down!"
>
>...and so on and so on and so on, I mean things that are INTENTIONALLY funny. Does anyone have any instances of comedy being done proper in a video game?
>
>The only ones I can think of never got translated, or if they did are probably too obsucre to mention. (There'a bit in Sakura Wars 2 that makes me piss myself where the gang are rehearsing King Lear, and Sakura asks if it has a happy ending.)
>
Carmageddon II and Soldier of Fortune are the funniest video games ever.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto is hilarious. Contains some great python type stuff. Go buy it now!
Having just turned 18 im more interested in FUCKING and getting SHITFACED.
I also like kafka and eminem
Also partly from the creators of Sam and Max, and just as good:
Monkey Island 1 + 2
Day Of The Tentacle!!!

The bonus room song is hilarious as well.
Pimania. Mad Martha.
Dementia does pretty well in the twisted humour stakes. And it has the ultra-cool Balloon Making Song.
"I like to make balloooons, I like to make balloooooooooooons, I like to maaake, make balloons!"
Earthworm Jim was the original funny game. There are some comedy moments in GTA. There was an old point and click game called Simon the Sorcerer which was quite funny. Chris Barrie did the voices.
All your base are belong to us doesn't count cause it wasn't intentionally funny.
There's lots of excellent jokes tucked away in videogames. Here's a few:
Art of Fighting 2 (Neo Geo) : After completing the game, inbetween the obligatory listing of programmers names, come lots of comedy 'out-takes' with the characters, in a Toy Story 2-type way. Years before Toy Story 2, however. Also contains the exchange "Quit the life in the service? You're probably a couch potato!" "I'm gonna teach you never to use potato in a demeaning vein!"
PuLiRuLa (Arcade): The most deranged, odd, videogame ever. Like one long Python cartoon.
Wizkid (Amiga) : Massively underrated, and wickedly hilarious Sensible Software title. Bits include buying a condom to use a bubble gum.
And all the Lucasgame ones, obviously. Grim Fandango, anyone?
anyone remember everyones a wally and other wally games on the spectrum?
there was also manic miner with the python-type foot squash at the end
a few other spectrum games were funny but i cant remember them.

Was too.

The Monty Python game wasn't a bad effort.
My copy of Monty Python kept crashing on level two. Which was very rare for a Spectrum title. The manual, however, was lovely.
Plus, I had the game for about a year before I realised that the writing on the cassette actually said 'Monthy Piton's Circing Flyus'.

It's a quote from the (poor) Japanese to English translation of the intro sequence of the Megadrive game Zerowing. Along with such classics as "Why you throw chip? Fucking come on then!" and "yu0=fag0t" it came from the online gaming community. People photoshopped the words into photos. And it was hilarious. See http://www.tribalwar.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=24539&pagenumber=
Of course none of it's as funny as the website of photoshopped Jamie Oliver pictures, but that's by the by.
There was an old Speccy game called Brian Bloodaxe which was absolutely drenched in Python references and was about as blatant about it as you could possibly get. Quite how they got away with it I've no idea.
also worth Conker's Bad Fur Day, which is pretty funny in places.
there was also a game of Yes Minister on the (much better than the speccy) C64, fact fans
I'm trying to think of a BBC B game I had. You were a ball which bounced around in a sci-fi surrounding, about the place there were TV screens which had Max Headroom on them. Not that comedy related, but I can't think of the name and it's bugging me.
Also the Leisure Suit Larry series, pretty funny when yer a kid I suppose, tho' felt a bit ripped off at the lack of pornographic content, I mean it had this clever age control thing, and what for EGA fucking graphics!
