sean hughes on up late Posted Tue Aug 21 00:22:27 BST 2001 by mongrel

Gina Yashere and that lanky common one were bad enough

But this guy makes me sick. His jokes about I love the 90's style shows really reminded of some I have seen.....elsewhere....

I take it that Sean's Show won't be figuring in I love 199whatever year it was...

Was Sean's Show funny? I only really remember enjoying one episode, and I was in a B'n'B in Uttoxeter at the time (damnit, Petarrrr), so that probably doesn't count.

I really liked the one with Windsor Davies in it.

I liked it, and have them on video. "Very Garry Shandling" as everyone annoyingly kept saying at the time ("annoyingly" because I hadn't managed to catch Garry Shandling at that time). I remember laughing uncontrollably at some bits.

I've a bit of a soft spot for Vic McGuire though, and even more of one for Sean. I now have the entire theme song running around my head... argh.

I loved Sean's show - especially the episode with Bea Arthur looking very confused. And I thought his stand-up was exceptionally funny, too.

He's a right shit to work with, however. Bad tempered old cussbag with nary a good word for anyone. And don't even get me started on his poetry....

Yeah, but he's a great snog...

"Sean's Show" was OK, from what I remember. "Sean's Shorts" was the most craven attempt by a 20-something man to be "credible" with teenagers that has ever been made. Typical episode: Sean in car with The WonderStuff. Then meets Carter USM in the studio, makes wry comments about their lyrics. Then he probably met Ned's Atomic Dustbin, or Kingmaker, or some other shit band, but I'd switched off by then.

From a list of bands like that, the Levellers MUST have been in there somewhere.

I've seen the Levellers in concert. Sean Hughes is still shite. I only watched up late again tonight because Johnny Vegas was on it, and I love fat drunk people. He got one of his tits out, which was funny, in a plebby sort of a way. His stand up show is funny/

I used to really like Sean Hughes at around the time of "Sean's Show". Now I regard him as a lazy, sneering, arrogant, and largely talentless waste of airtime. Funny what a lengthy association with a tedious 'game show' can do.

And more to the point, in the grand tradition of Micheal MacLiammoir, Shane McGowan and (allegedly) Peter O'Toole, he's not really Irish.....
