>Just got a flier from Avalon plugging recordings at Teddington for a new ITV Sketch show featuring Lee Mack and Ronni Ancona and some other people.
>
>Is it likely to be any good? Will it be worth going to see?
Yes and yes. And it's going to be SOTCAA friendly, in that it'll be proper studio-based sketches played for proper laughs with proper punchlines.
Didn't Lee Mack used to present 'Gas'? If he did then I found him very unfunny indeed. He was about as funny as Jamie Theakston was on the Priory.
Who was it said they'd crawl a million miles over broken glass just to wank over Ronni Ancona's shadow? See you there covered in plasters then?
No doubt it'll be shite.
>No doubt it'll be shite.
Your new persona, I take it?
I preferred Positive Steve.
>Who was it said they'd crawl a million miles over broken glass just to wank over Ronni Ancona's shadow? See you there covered in plasters then?
What sort of stuff does Ancona do?
What I don't understand is why Lee Mack stole Frank Skinner's 1991 signature "double thumbs-up" gesture. Anyone understand that?
I remember Lee Mack being like Tim Vine, i.e. complete one-lineringly shit. But its been about 3 years since Gas, so there might have been some time for some artistic growth.
Vine is a fucking genius. Nobody else on the planet can match his one liners. They are shit, I'll give you that, but he is delivering them as a parody of someone who would deliver them as a parody of someone who thinks they're funny. He is a double parody. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I like his work.
>Vine is a fucking genius.
Well, he's in the new sketch show too.
>He was about as funny as Jamie Theakston was on the Priory.
That's a hurtful thing to say about anyone, especially a full-time comedian. I wouldn't say that to my worst enemy.
Seen some try out shows for this and I have to say it looked promising. The cast are very dispirate in humour but somehow it works together. And some very funny ideas (and not many bad ones which will presumably be dropped anyway)
Quite mainstream and old fashioned. In a good way.
I think Karen Taylor is particularly good
See you all there then?
Theakston is a twat on the Priory. Agreed.
But where does this leave his remarkably subtle performance in Rock Profiles?
Tricky.
