The Office: Episode 3 Posted Mon Jul 23 22:35:10 BST 2001 by Tom Adams

Tradition indicates that I must start this thread. This is the last time, though.

Absolutely feeble.

My basic decent honesty nudges me to admit that, despite having defended the first episode to the death (like a man), I haven't been arsed to watch it since.

I'm starting to fall for the one with the radio hat. He's recreating the Baynham look, and that's always a hit with us girls.

But it doesn't make me laugh :(

Can we just clear this up? I understood that The Lord Privy Toast Rack = Ted Kunterblast = Peter O. Is that correct?

Yes.

"Is your name not Bruce? That's going to cause some confusion."

Perhaps someone should set up a thread for suggestions for his next name - something even more ridiculous maybe.
Sorry if this is going off track of the subject title but... actually, i couldn't give a fuck.

Well, i think it's about time you changed it again, and changed it everytime you posted. Then we'd see how long you can be 'witty' and 'clever' for.
I'd change my name but you know, it's an account. Plus, i did it once, so that must count?

'meryl streeps orange obsession', that isn't a comic strip reference is it?

More precisely, it's a Comic Strip *thread* reference.

OK...here goes...
I really enjoyed tonight's episode of The Office!
There, I said it. I'm beginning to feel an empathy for the Tim character, for reasons I won't go into; but just to say, my 20th birthday present from 'the office' was a large inflatable pair of lips. And that was it. Nothing weird or pervy, just a big pair of lips. :(
Needless to say, I felt soon afterwards. Well, 8 years afterwards.

None of which actually makes it any good, of course. Nobody's saying it's nothing like a real office. But a real office is shit telly.

Ditto. In fact, I can't even be arsed to post to this thread.

Gosh, what an honour, being muddled up with top internet humourist Charlie Brooker, who (according to rumour) is working on a new project with Chris Morris! Like fuck he is!

i heard it is going to be a spoof internet comedy forum.

oh and The Office this week was quite funny i thought.

I liked all the knowing looks to camera whenever Gervais is telling jokes. The bit about Gervais goign off to look up information to beat the Blockbusters bloke was great.

That bloke from World of Pub (Tim?) who's in it is grand too!

Oops, I meant 'left' not 'felt'!

I agree that The Office is, if nothing else, extremly well acted. Perhaps they're trying to hard to make Gervais' character a Partridge hate him/love him character. Do we sympathise or dislike him; it's a bit muddled there I think.

But, unlike World of Pub, Hippies and Perfect World, it does HAVE characters. And it's funny. So there.

I don't know how you can lump World of Pub in with Perfect World! PW makes The Office look like Hancock's Half Hour.

But I think your point sums up my distrust of the media championing of The Office and its own sense of self-satisfaction. World of Pub is not a realist sitcom. Its closest recent relative is probably Father Ted - which only really had one 'character' in the shape of Ted. Although I am not saying that ...Pub is as good as Father Ted, they are both surrealistic sitcoms that utilise types rather than realist 'characters'.

And The Office is so not funny.
