Bloody strange, isn't it?
Do you think they've had to replace (because of Collins etc) the special with 'Crime', but pretend that the episode *is* the special, so as not muck up schedules again?
Can David Cann perhaps shed any light on this?
Turning into 'Rather Dull Eye' every second.
I don't think the crime episode is the special -- just that they used footage from 'crime' for the trailer so as not to cause any more problems...
Maybe..i don't know. I'm suppossed to be hearing some 'top-secret' news about the special - so i'll maybe post it later.
> pretend that the episode *is* the special
... was my guess too. I don't think Mr Arse needs to worry.
I'd be a little frightened if somebody said that to me.....
>> pretend that the episode *is* the special
Sorry, I've just realised that we meant two different things. *I* think the Special's going out as intended but they ran the trailer for "Moral Decline" to confuse and befuddle.
Sorry for any unintentional additional confusion and befuddlement I may have caused. But I still don't think Mr Arse needs to worry.
Eh, Bongo?
They also talked all throughout the credits of the episode. Oh I wish there was an extra interview shoved in there like other episode ending credits so they couldnt talk over it!
The funkier music completely interrupted.
which episode was actually trailed tonight? because crime is scheduled to be shown next thursday after the special so if it was crime then thats ok. i would imagine they won't trail the special again unless they know 100% it will be shown.
>which episode was actually trailed tonight?
Bits of 'Moral Decline' - including several tiny chunks of the Sutcliffe sketch - were edited together for the trailer, but they called it the "Brass Eye Special". I still think the actual JLb-8 special will be going out, and they just chose not to run a spoiler.
>Bits of 'Moral Decline' - including several tiny chunks of the Sutcliffe sketch - were edited together for the trailer, but they called it the "Brass Eye Special".
Although, of course, this was something of a spoiler for 'Moral Decline'. Sutcliffe now previewed to the masses and the fake C4 News report given away before it even happens. To my mind, these are two of the best "suprises" in 'Moral Decline', so why use them in a trailer? There's gotta be a system.
Mr Berry, why was last night's C4 Brass Eye Special trailer pre-empted by someone saying "Coming up, info on a Brass Eye Special on 'Crime' ".
Why did it then go on to show clips from 'Moral Decline'?
Is it to take heat away from the paedo subject? or just a massive cock up? or are they fucking around with the episodes again? I presume 'Crime' will follow 'Special', then the week after 'Moral Decline'?
>Mr Berry, why was last night's C4 Brass Eye Special trailer pre-empted by someone saying "Coming up, info on a Brass Eye Special on 'Crime' ".
Dunno. The announcer will have been asked to mention a trail for the special over the end of the credits. As announcers write their own links, he may have been using the word 'crime' to denote the contents of the Special. I'm guessing, though.
>Why did it then go on to show clips from 'Moral Decline'?
Dunno again. It looked like an in-house trail, and was very different from the previous ones, so it might have been a cut 'n' shut job to replace a Morris-made trail but, again, I'm guessing.
>Is it to take heat away from the paedo subject? or just a massive cock up? or are they fucking around with the episodes again? I presume 'Crime' will follow 'Special', then the week after 'Moral Decline'?
Never underestimate people's capacity for being crap. The episodes on C4 won't be any different than the ones shown on E4. BES is going out on 26 July at 22:35 followed by a repeat of one of the first series. The main culprit of confusion here is the trail itself, so I would be tempted to think it was just a botched job.
Alternatively, it could be a deliberately engineered cock-up to keep Internets alive with the chattering of Morris fans? Who knows?
Cheerio
Tsk. Uninformed speculation and conspiracy theories. They're all the rage, aren't they?

It's all I do.

oops
I'm told by someone from c4 that it is going out, is about paedophiles, but HAS been editied to remove some 'sensitive' bits.
I was told they included more stuff since it was not ready last time. I wish theyd stop fucking about with it

Can we please replace all the Brass Eye debate there's been on this forum with just these two posts? They seem to sum it all up nicely.
>Tsk. Uninformed speculation and conspiracy >theories. They're all the rage, aren't >they?
Speaking of which:
So, let's assume the info and pictures were leaked to the NME by either Morris himself or someone from C4 (rather than, as someone else suggested, an ego-boosting employee being stupid - which I find unlikely). I'm clearly in the minority here, but I knew very little about the BE repeats and special prior to the looking in the paper on the day the special was due to shown (I'd seen the trailer, and figured that it was going to be about paedos and formed the hopeful belief that it would be done in the style of Trev McDonald's 'Tonight with...' - Newsnight, and most TV news, is no so aware of its own naffness that it's beyond parody, but Trev still seems to take himself seriously). Not having E4, I knew nothing of the repeats on there. Similarly, most of my friends and the people at work weren't aware of it beyond "C4 are trailing a BE 'special'" (if they knew about it at all).
It didn't seem to have grabbed headlines, wasn't really being pushed by C4. It was scheduled against two programs which turned out to be fairly impressive ratings winners for the slot (and I'm sure someone at C4 must have realised beforehand that there'd be a fight for ratings that night). And I can't help wondering if it was actually pulled for this reason. Showing it after the repeats - which should build up some audience for it (beyond the core Morris fans) - and given the extra time to promote it (getting Phil Collins to threaten legal action, etc., seems to have grabbed at least some coverage) seems rather like a cynical ploy to boost the viewing figures. (Though I think it's healthy cynicism - if it's comedy worth watching, more people should be made aware of it.)
It must be very difficult to market a show like BE - you don't want to give too much away (who's been stung, what they said), but you're in danger of letting it slip under the net.
I find it hugely unlikely that any threats of legal action, or hasty campaigns by tabloids, would lead to it being dropped by C4 (and the bleating on here about revelations being dangerous in case the Mail or some canny litigator get wind seems like nonsense [or Nonce Sense, if you prefer]). They are, in general, more supportive of things the tabloids don't like (and the things they seriously don't like - all the complaints about falling standards in the early 90s were empty, but the attacks on 'QaF' and 'Men Only' seemed quite sincere - as much as a tabloid can ever be sincere), and while they might edit sections they wouldn't drop it (even with the paedo issue). Overall, and strengthened by commercial ventures, I think C4 is more concerned with saving face; being seen to be standing by its decision and sticking to its guns, rather than being seen to please middle-aged plebs, these days. Though I could be wrong.
In which case, while it's entirely possible the claims about material having been added since the postponment are true, I wonder if it actually *was* ready for broadcast (contrary to the official explanation), but they weren't ready to broadcast it. The word of mouth wasn't doing its job enough.
Of course, the delay and promo could be Morris doing (maybe it wasn't ready - but, equally, maybe it was and he simply told C4 it wasn't so he could whip up some interest). And I find that more likely than some might, because I think he is much more media savvy than... someone (Tom?) suggested.
But, as I say, just a conspiracy theory. And probably bollocks.
Like I said, could we please replace...?
>Like I said, could we please replace...?
Gracious, no. Never say with two words what you can say with twenty.
Why didn't you just say "twenty" then? I'd have bothered to read all of that.
>Why didn't you just say "twenty" then? I'd
>have bothered to read all of that.
Well, it seemed like only 20. Reading it now, I can barely believe I wrote that much. Except that I keep doing it, so I can readily believe it was me. I blame the drugs. And if I don't pull tonight, I'll be back with more bollocks theories.
Later, then
Odd thing about the trailer, I was watching south park on S4C last night after missing the original C4 slot, after it they ran the original brasseye special trailer (the blue hair one). Just seemed odd, considering C4's running clips from various past shows as their trailer. Be interesting to see if S4C run the 'shock up your brains' one. Doubt it.
Also, there was a confusing article in (cough) the Sun today; it was by Lorraine Kelly on a page titled Lorraine Kelly. Her thoughts were titled 'Chris is a Morris Chancer', she said Morris was risky, named a few famous people and explained how they were duped, then blabbed on 'he has crossed the line, Gary Lineker, paedophiles, she then quoted “hysterical media reaction”. She finished with this “Given that we live in a society where a mob attacked a Paediatrician in the mistaken belief that she was a paedophile, they might have a point”.
Wow, try and work out what 'Chris is a Morris Chancer' means.
>Wow, try and work out what 'Chris is a Morris Chancer' means.
It certainly conjours up a pleasant image of him in a rustic outfit waving a couple of hankies.
>It certainly conjours up a pleasant image of him in a rustic outfit waving a couple of hankies.
I already had that image. I'll have to find a new one now.
