Brass Eye Special Posted Sat Jul 7 00:11:45 BST 2001 by 'Anonymous'

Ok, can somebody tell me:

a) Why so many people on this and other forums are falling for such an obvious, ill thought out, misguided drivel for a hoax such as the one currently gracing the front of cookdandbombd? If you are one of the poor souls who believe in it, please explain to me why when there is no evidence what so ever to support the claims.

b) What is the point of this hoax? It serves no useful purpose - explain please Neil or TJ.

the only reason for believing that c&b believe what they are saying is that they would look so lame if they are lying.

I think what we have here is an example of c&b jumping to conclusions or getting over exited and exaggerating.
Tracy Ash is not Chris Morris. Tracy Ash is real. What has happened is that somebody has accessed her site and played a few pranks.
I have emailed her myself and she has admitted as much although she is getting tired of explaining it over and over again.
In my opinion somebody simply reclaimed her site once she had deleted her screen name. WHich is normal with AOL web sites.
As for the content of The Brass Eye Special, it has a few minutes on child expoitation (not peadophilia).
Most of it is based on the internet and some on web style witch hunts and monumental errors resulting in chaos.
It does not feature ANY celebrity interviews whatsoever.

No, what we have here is a load of bollocks being written by people who should know better. Who the fuck came up with this idea?

Indeed, the thing that struck me most about the cookdandbombd message was it's complete over-earnestness and - dare I say it - self-importance.

Morris quite clearly does not care about SOTCAA, or cookdandbombd. He has wider issues on his mind. Yes, it's important to be 'passionate' in our interests, but it's also nice to keep a sense of perspective.

...unless it was a hoax, of course, in which case it's just crap.

Of course, the unsolicited "rough cut" of the Brass Eye special which was sent to c&b could always have been the hoax, specifically to put the wind up them....

Wow, my God, this really could become as tedious as the original Tracy Ash thing, couldn't it?

Subject: Re: Brass Eye Special [ Previous Message ]
Posted By Tom Adams on Sat Jul 7 01:01:39 BST 2001:

Put yourself in them at c&b's position for a moment. I am very willing to belive them.

It doesn't work as a hoax because it only affects those people who would already know about the show.

Why are you demanding answers from me? Is my name given anywhere in conjunction with what you are referring to as a 'hoax'? No it isn't. I've spent all day giving answers to people about something I know very little about, in case you hadn't noticed, and I'm fed up of being bombarded with all this as a result of my sharing rare Morris material and information with people through a website, and frankly I'm a bit tired of it now.

And why have you posted anonymously if you're so sure of yourself?

Posted By 'Anonymous' on Sat Jul 7 01:05:11 BST 2001:

I don't know where he got his info from, but the posting above from 'Alex' sounds quite plausible. Apart from the stuff about Tracy Ash being real. If Morris wished to parody his own fans, I doubt he would waste an entire half-hour on it. He'd probably do it in a subtler way, on a less public forum. Nice as it is of the c&b fellas to keep us informed, a _slightly_ less hysterical tone would've been nice...

It is a hoax. There is no question about it. If it were real, the cab team would of posted some proof by now. These are the people who shared the Sutcliffe sketch with the world remember.

I'll ask again, who came up with this idea?

Around and around it goes. Claim and counter claim. No proof. No sources. Just typical Internet bollocks.

Okay...here's some proof. This is the opening of the Brasseye Special....

Title sequence.
cut to shot of 5 young children happily walking down a street. Ambient music plays.
Morris voiceover: "These are our children...they skip down our streets...but the paedophile is WAITING!' (ominous music dramatically crashes in) We cut to quick shots of street signs 'FANCIA DRIVE' and 'YOUNGBOTTOM RIDE'. We cut to a close-up of a leering man with 'PAEDO' written on his forehead - he has two children in a headlock.

Cut to Gary Lineker talking to cam. He is holding a photo of what appears to be a hillside.
Lineker: "Take a look at this...what is it? Just a hillside?...look again. (cut to close-up of photo - we can see a fuzzy blue image of what might be a person.) "There's a child there...no more than a blue speck - but the fact is that if you showed this picture to a paedophile they'll actually try and attack it in an attempt to reach the child - that's the kind of warped mindset we're dealing with'

Right, here's my stance.

If that's true, then you've spoiled the suspense. And the first bit of the programme.

If that's untrue, then you're an idiot.

Any more, Belcher? Even if it's not real, it's entertaining.

Yeah, way to go you bunch of total fuckwits. Whether that's real or not (and I see no reason to believe that it is), this kind of behaviour is only going to ensure that it never gets shown at all.

RHC, now isn't the time.

And speculation *can* lead to censorship.

I disagree. That excerpt made me laugh, real or not, and anyway I remembering hearing all sorts about Brass Eye before I first watched it (lots of details about Cake, mainly) but it was still "mega" when finally viewed.

Chill out, post more if you've got it, etc.

Mental note: use the word "mega" more extensively in my posts.

Good hoax, I can just picture Mark Heap leering in such a way. And, you confessed in under an hour which is probaly wise given the present atmosphere in the forum.

Fun: Apart from the seven topics so far (eight if you include the internet), can anyone think of any other potential subjects for Brasseye to cover? poverty? class?

Babies born to older mothers who are married to megalomaniacs and whose existing children are underage-drinkers.
