And that is the reaction we should all be having.
It's a shame really, I would have liked to see the reactions after the broadcast (mine included.)
SO...when C4 told people who phoned in that it 'wasn't finished yet' they may not have been talking shit.Hmmmmmmmmmm.
>SO...when C4 told people who phoned in that it 'wasn't finished yet' they may not have been talking shit.Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Beautiful isn't it.
If it's true.
Aargh.
>Beautiful isn't it.

>If it's true.
It's been confirmed on the CaBal by Paul Cooling, who's been right about all this stuff all along.
I'm salivating at the prospect.
rOD.
I really, really like this ride.
Can't say I feel very enlightened by that whole page - the real message is that you lucky chaps at cookdandbombd have a rough preview tape of the special, but you aren't going to tell us much about it. The broad subject being the "Internet" had already been posted here as a rumour some weeks ago (by Mike4SOTCAA I think), so that doesn't count, you little minxes.
And as for this bit:
>When that was a success they decided to see how far they could push things, and were curious to see whether a few random phrases thrown into discussion groups could generate newspaper headlines. It did, have a look at this article from The Guardian. They're even discussing it on their forum now.
Which phrases are you suggesting came from Chris Morris? The only "random phrase thrown into a discussion group" that didn't come from someone phoning Channel 4 was the one about the weather being too hot, but I wasn't paying attention so I omitted to mention the weather, thus
accidentally making it ambiguous and prone to misinterpretation, but which (as I'll gladly mention at every opportunity) was something I only
posted because the idea made me laugh. I'm happy to call this "Brass Eye Audience Participation," but let's face it, it's of a rather small and pathetic kind - the events on one forum on this tiny backwater of the Internet don't amount to more than a hill o' beans in this crazy world.
Are seriously claiming that the Brass Eye Special includes "footage" of our reactions to the Tracy Ash site? In which case, it's making the following incredible satirical point: about twenty of us nobodies who use this forum were enthusiastically looking forward to seeing the uncut repeats and didn't want someone stopping it from being shown. Radical! The sacred cows of the establishment are mooing in panic, and doing big scared cow pats, I'll bet.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to finding out what Morris and his team of rogues have to say about my favourite method of connecting computers together.
I hear from a source that BES will air before the end of the month (probably-ish maybe).
I hear that it is as to be expected from the Un-expectable One...
>it's making the following incredible satirical point: about twenty of us nobodies who use this forum were enthusiastically looking forward to seeing the uncut repeats and didn't want someone stopping it from being shown. Radical!
he's saying thank-you, can't you see? He's not making a monkey of us, he's saying thank-you, don't you see man?
>>it's making the following incredible satirical point: about twenty of us nobodies who use this forum were enthusiastically looking forward to

> he's saying thank-you, can't you see? He's not making a monkey of us, he's saying thank-you, don't you see man?
Aw, that's nice!
So are cookdandbombd flushed with embarrasment because they're so flattered?
what better way to say thank-you to a "bunch of up-their-arse self-important tosspots" than to flush their cheeks with embarassment.
what better to please a joker than with a joke (which the Lord Privy Toast Rack seems cheesingly unable to take).
it goes on and on.
>Can't say I feel very enlightened by that whole page - the real message is that you lucky chaps at cookdandbombd have a rough preview tape of the special, but you aren't going to tell us much about it.
No, not 'chaps' plural. I haven't got a copy. And I've had enough unwanted and unreadable people from email for one day about this without starting to get begging letters too.
Thee shaln't get none begging letters from I. It's going to be on telly in a few weeks, for christing out loud.
It's not that I don't get the lovely joke, brainiac, have no fear. I just think it would be a bit of a waste of an episode of Brass Eye to use it to hug your fans. He could have just sent us a nice postcard or something.
Anyone else noticed how Radiator Head Child's disappeared all of a sudden?
Just a thought.
>Anyone else noticed how Radiator Head Child's disappeared all of a sudden?
Nothing to do with me. I swear.
Yeah... I never see her and Chris Morris in the same sick fantasy at the same time...
I thought that RayDavies bloke might of been Morris, and everybody did for a time think Tracy Ash was also Morris. But the site got replaced with some weird kind of joke site afterwards so everyone sort of forgot about the whole thing.
Didn't everyone say something along the lines of Morris showing his fans up as hypocrits by making them bad mouth Brass Eye on paper so Tracy Ash could ban it just so they would get sent an unedited copy for themselves? Showing that they were no better then the celebs on BE that they were laughing at pretending to have an opinion about something for money. Anyway, if this is all true and he's using these letters on the show, it will be quite humourous.
This was of looking at things makes sense, when was the last time Morris spent tons on advertising in the NME? Making sure he gets all the fans attention so they can explode when it isn't shown.
Taking the piss out of your fans isn't funny though. It hurts them.
I'm backing myself to get over it, mind.
Strangely that would be more... Morrisian, somehow.
You don't suppose he was TP Kirby, do you?
If you take the piss out of your fans- er...wheres the audience or cult or whatever.
He would just have a unpopular audience or some maniac fans who really are perverts
If the events witness on this forum in the last few months have ANY bearing whatsoever on the Brass Eye special, then I will buy each of you a pint of foaming nut-brown ale.
I'm registering skepticism, by the way.
"The c&b forums are shut at the moment but someone was complaining that their messages were being deleted from the forums when trying to prove that the contents of the new episode were about paedophiles and that c&b are working with Morris."
Anyone care to shed some light on this?
Oh please, not another mindfuck, aren't we all a bunch of useless chimps.
>"The c&b forums are shut at the moment but someone was complaining that their messages were being deleted from the forums when trying to prove that the contents of the new episode were about paedophiles and that c&b are working with Morris."
>
>Anyone care to shed some light on this?
Yes. I think you're making that quote up. I've not seen it anywhere, and I've *not* been deleting *anyone's* posts.
Well, I thought the whole point was taking to task those who feel a God given right to talk at length on any subject thrown at them, yer celebs to be exact.
Now, surely reacting strongly to the news that BES was postponed without having all the facts ... oh fuck I think I get it now.
I paraphrased what someone else said on the e4 forum but I don't believe them for a second..
>Are seriously claiming that the Brass Eye Special includes "footage" of our reactions to the Tracy Ash site? i have to say i agree, a small amount of complaining on a couple of fan sites seems a pretty weak target. while i like the idea that chris actually reads cookdandbombd or sotcaa, i don't think making a brass eye special aimed at an audience of fifty makes much sense. why doesn't he just enter in to sensible debate about the comedy biz a la rich herring.
>I paraphrased what someone else said on the e4 forum but I don't believe them for a second..
Whereabouts on the E4 forum?
>Well, I thought the whole point was taking to task those who feel a God given right to talk at length on any subject thrown at them, yer celebs to be exact.
>Now, surely reacting strongly to the news that BES was postponed without having all the facts ... oh fuck I think I get it now.

Actually, no I don't, surely a bunch of fans ain't his target.
It's so twisted it rings true, but that's why I don't think it is.
SO now that we know it's Morris, what do you all think of the 'Tracy Ash' stunt? Is it a work of genius, or a waste of time? I remember quite a few people saying that it wasn't Morris, because it wasn't clever enough, or that it was quite sick, etc. Do we re-evaluate our opinion of Morris or of the original hoax?
The Chris Morris thread.
The actual response can be found at http://forum.channel4.com/forums/forum.cgi?forum=e4&action=article&topic=990555626a28992&article=994439711a11790&offset=63437
My response it to wait and be surprised by the new show.
Wait there, how come this Tebceac P. Fembi (62.6.64.115) makes this viscious circle conspiracy shite, yet I've never heard of him before, and he has a registered account, no ''s on his name. Who the arse is doing all this counter conspiracy conspiracy crap.
from c&b messageboard
>As of Friday night (6/7/01) this board has been closed for a while, sorry, but this really isn't our choice. I'm not about to let this site be shut down over a potential legal mess. Saying I was going to post clips from the Brass Eye Special before I had actually done it is probably the most witless fucking thing I've done in years. Sorry.
if cookandbombd is in any way linked to chris morris i will be amazed and overjoyed, but also puzzled. if it is an outlet for chris to release archive material why aren't there more 'on the hour' or 'radio 1 show' episodes on there. (this is all getting a bit wierd so i have to go and lie down).
To be fair I was just seeing if anyone in here had heard something similar. I wasn't attempting to instigate a counter conspiracy myself.
Well, I've never seen you post on the forum before, it's seems suspicious some weird named person jumps out with a registered account spouting this stuff. Is your name some kind of anogram?
>if cookandbombd is in any way linked to chris morris i will be amazed and overjoyed, but also puzzled. if it is an outlet for chris to release archive material why aren't there more 'on the hour' or 'radio 1 show' episodes on there.
I can assure you it's not. There are no official ties to the site, and any material is from off-air copies donated by fans.
> (this is all getting a bit wierd so i have to go and lie down).
And how do you think I'm feeling right now!?!?!?
> Is your name some kind of anogram?
It is yes.
Again. I'd just like to reiterate that I do not believe that there is anything suspicious going on with c&b. On a thread discussing the latest news on the Brass Eye special in the 4later forum the e4 comment was referred to. This is where I believe Tebceac P. Fembi may have found it. I did comment in that thread that everyone should take it with a massive pile of salt.
As I said earlier; I am going to sit back and look forward to the episode (whenever it is shown).
So, who's solved the anagram ?
Aha, my arch nemesis........ Becca Pefembit!
Pete, if BBC came?
i'm working on it.......
Argh! Just remembered all the stupid things I was saying on the Tracy Ash thread. Something to the effect of "Chris Morris would never do anything quite as sick as this, blah blah blah..." If anyone wants me, I'll be eating my words.
A little too subtle for my liking
Isn't it strange how a pristine uncut copy of Brasseye became available on ebay at around this time? I remember someone mentioning it's presence on the Cabal. Clearly Morris again. It's all so nicely worked: I love the man. Luckily I thought there was something odd very early on, so I didn't do anything stupid (=Phil A).
Pie-face met BBC?
i was taking my finals around the time of the tracy ash controversy and missed it all, can someone fill me in on exactly what went on?
>i was taking my finals around the time of the tracy ash controversy and missed it all, can someone fill me in on exactly what went on?
See the "Here We Go Again..." thread in old topics. The website itself doesnt exist anymore.
A website claiming to want Brass Eye repeats cancelled, offered copies of the show so that people could see how "bad" it really was for themselves. The "Tracey Ash" who ran the site also claimed that she was holding a meeting about it.
She then passed on the blank tapes she was sent for copying around in a big loop, involving several members of this forum.
The site then closed with some cryptic message about chimps.
People here were pissed off because they'd been fooled, and it "wasn't very funny". The general feeling was that it wasn't Chris Morris "because it was too clever.
Should have read "was not clever enough".
Nice morrisian slip.
This is the best bit…
Anon: “TJ - how did you find this site?”
TJ: “The link was posted to Cook'd And Bomb'd's mailing list by someone calling themself 'Ray Davies'.”
So inane, so idiotic, I thought to myself, it couldn't possibly be the work of Mr Morris. Thus I became Satire. Pass the salt, please.

My favourite:
Eee, I'm PC Fact-Ebb
It's all coming together.
having read through the whole tracy ash thread it seems that it was a very lame hoax which if related to chris morris in anyway shows he's lost it completely. therefore it is c&b which is making all this up to waste some time while the special is delayed.
(also the pokomon links, tracy, ash, etc were just plain stoopid).
>This is the best bit…

>Anon: “TJ - how did you find this site?”

In what way was this the best bit???
I don't think he put all his efforts into this alleged hoax, somehow. Probably had a TV show to make, or something.
Was it definately Morris? could it not just have been a collaborator, a mini-morris if you will.
Ray Davies really has got time to spare hasn't he. Anybody wanting to hurl conspiracy at eachother can join together in the Cookd and Bombd IRC room at irc.webmaster.com and chatroom Bonobo

a morris minor you mean.

Morris would have put Donald Fagan.
Fantastic.
yes, but has anyone 'solved' the anagram ?
sorry to keep harping on.
I don't buy any of this for a minute.
Is Chris Morris, who values his "invisibility" above everything else, going to do a self-referential show about how people react to his past work and the censorship thereof?
Is Brass Eye going to step "out of character" and say, "Hey, we're actually a comedy show, not a current affairs programme, and four years ago we did a sketch that some people found offensive and was censored...etc"
Anagrams of silly name here:

Tell me if you spot anything, I can't be bothered.
possabilitys:
1. It's all a hoax by C&B. (Apparently a good sorce told me 'Peter Phile' is a suedaname of Dave Griffiths)
2. It's all a hoax by morris.
3. it's all a double (or is it triple) bluff hoax by morris, not intending it to go on the show, but just for a laugh.
4. it's all a horribly wondeful dream.
5. It IS actually about peedofiles.
6. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz z zzzzzz zzzzzzz

What does Peter Phile sound like when you say it quickly? (you've probably all noticed this, but it might relate to this whole business).
>1. It's all a hoax by C&B. (Apparently a good sorce told me 'Peter Phile' is a suedaname of Dave Griffiths)
No it isn't.
I'm afraid you've all been led on a wild goose chase due to me reading anagram as acronym.
Oops. :)
TJ, what's actually on the preview tape?
>TJ, what's actually on the preview tape?
I don't know, because I haven't seen it and I don't have a copy.
Exactly how did you read anagram as acronym?
The world awaits agog.
well... chris morris has hoaxed to provoke fan reactions before, for instance, the "fading out" censoring episode with blue jam series 1 part 6. if anyone needs an explaination of why this was not a genuine censor moment then let me know, but really, it should be bloody obvious.
>>Is Brass Eye going to step "out of character" and say, "Hey, we're actually a comedy show, not a current affairs programme, and four years ago we did a sketch that some people found offensive and was >>censored...etc"
Also, how are you going to make postings on internet forums good TV?
so cookd&bomd were going to post bits from the new special until threatened with legal action? that's so disrespectful. talk about biting the hand that feeds
TJ, I apologise for badgering you. I understood you to have some kind of connection with cookdandbombd.

if you know better than soctaa i'm all ears.
>Exactly how did you read anagram as acronym?
Oh come on, they're not that dissimilar. I was skimming.
The article about the pulling of the special on Guardian Unlimited (http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4216589,00.html) seems to have mysteriously disappeared. Perhaps they read the cookdandbombd thing and felt embarrassed.

My guess is that it was practically the end of that edited bishop item when it faded out, so not much to be gained by fading it. And the fact that they are supposed to have had the old episode running in parallel and ready to fade in "just incase" sounds a bit unlikely.
>>TJ, what's actually on the preview tape?

>I don't know, because I haven't seen it and I don't have a copy.
tj did you ever get the feeling you were out of the loop? i'm surprised we haven't heard from neil or the soctaa guys yet.
skimming isn't an excuse, probably.

but spending 3/4 of an hour repeating the first episode on pupose would be even more bizzare.

Lack of material ready in time for broadcast?
Quick question:
Morris' suicide column. What paper was it in?
>Lack of material ready in time for broadcast?
when did you ever know chris morris to have too little material, he could have just improvised with peter baynham for a while and it would have been comedy gold.
The Guardian. c&b tells you all that, i think.

Yes!

Observer.
(Partly why there was so much trouble, because it was the Observer who ran Ruth Picardie's column 'Before I Say Goodbye'.)
That's what I meant. Shit.
>(Partly why there was so much trouble, because it was the Observer who ran Ruth Picardie's column 'Before I Say Goodbye'.)
the irony being that anyone who agrees with morris about that kind of emotive column wouldn't have actually read it at the time (at least i didn't).
Epic babe FM, etc.?
Cafe mice bet BP?
Pete McCabe, FBI?
He meant acronym, Mogwai. I got stuck with the BBC Cafe and gave up.
If this story on C&B is true, and the pulling was a morris hoax, then this would explain why those Breezeblock things he did were so incredibly shit. They were purposefully bad (a thought that did occur to me at the time). Rumours of Charlie brooker can also be explained by this hoax.
It has been child disappearances this week rather than paedophilia.
I know - but i just wanted to use the phrase kiddie fiddlers. it rolls off the tongue.
BBC Café Meet Pi (The waitress can't spell)
> He meant acronym, Mogwai.
I'm not sure that that wasn't a joke. And anyway, if it is an acronym then it's merely a hilarious private joke with himself, which is toweringly dull for the rest of us. So I'm content to keep trying to find some anagram that renders the name even remotely interesting. It passes the time until we actually hear something verifiable about Brass Eye...
"Unless" what? Are you saying *he's* been out kidnapping 15-year-olds? That's a little too pro-active, even for him - there are easier ways to drum up publicity for your show, surely...
>If this story on C&B is true, and the pulling was a morris hoax, then this would explain why those Breezeblock things he did were so incredibly shit. They were purposefully bad (a thought that did occur to me at the time).
Please be joking. You cannot possibly worship someone so much that when they plainly do something a bit shit, you can only accept it as part of some greater scheme they have going.
> this would explain why those Breezeblock things he did were so incredibly shit. They were purposefully bad
Maybe he thought that, I don't know, maybe the pressure was off, and he could just kick back and play some records he liked in the middle of the night, and perhaps shove in a bit of unused material for people who might appreciate it, safe in the knowledge that he wouldn't be judged as critically as he was for the programmes he dedicated all his energy to.
Except that in the end, of course, he was.
>Except that in the end, of course, he was.
Oh, I'm crying.
>Oh, I'm crying.
I'm not trying to get people to send him fucking flowers, I'm just pointing out that the feverish denunciations of these sessions are weird and misplaced. Seems to me he thought he was doing the equivalent of a mix tape for a mate but there's a hardcore fan base who were expecting a Scott Walker-style solo album instead, and then got cross because he didn't deliver one.
Precisely the fucking point. Hyper-criticism, I reckon.
Sorry, just getting annoyed at how we're all trying to "understand how he feels". Some people need to try and differentiate between Morris' persona and himself.
Not necessarily anyone in particular, mind.
Maybe we should send flowers though. We could order them from his awful joke website.
"Please be joking. You cannot possibly worship someone so much that when they plainly do something a bit shit, you can only accept it as part of some greater scheme they have going."
Don't worry, Joe knows it was shit. O told him so.
I wish I'd spent more time on that update today, but i was admittedly quite pissed off and embarrased at the time. Please stop picking the Tracy Ash thing to bits,,,I only mentioned it so heavily because our site and mailing list was so heavily involved with it.
It was a minor part of the show, seemingly building up to a bigger picture. Did you see the last part of my update? Anyway, from the emails I sent to "Ash" it seems that Morris was only partially involved in the hoax. That doesn't surprise me to be honest. Apparently one or two of his researchers or whatever even absentmindedly signed off with male names!
This show is about attitudes and gullibility, from what I've seen so far. The Sport, for one, should be fucking ashamed of themselves.
Jesus how can you all ignore the very last thing I said in my update. You are all so conceited that you have missed the real issue!!!
by the way guys, I'm like so over this now. Yo!
>>1. It's all a hoax by C&B. (Apparently a good sorce told me 'Peter Phile' is a suedaname of Dave Griffiths)
no it's not, i spell it Pete File.
>Jesus how can you all ignore the very last thing I said in my update. You are all so conceited that you have missed the real issue!!!
Yeah, yeah, Sutcliffe 2. I for one deliberately ignored it because it's so vague and teasing. "By the way... Spunky Backpack 2... that's all I'm saying. Oh you guys are going to love this! I'm afraid it's a secret though. Ha ha."
Another reason for ignoring it is because of all the mad stuff that appeared above it. Right up to and including "Don't be surprised if you're in it." Most of this thread has been about how conceited and unsupported that attitude is.
You posted an ill-considered update, but we're conceited because we paid attention to the wrong 95% of it?
I've an idea for a deal! I reckon Rob should only consider silencing this thread if you post a new update that only contains actual facts about what you saw on the preview tape.
And let TJ see it, the poor bugger's feeling left out! :)
>And let TJ see it, the poor bugger's feeling left out! :)
Stop speaking for me, please.
And for your information, I don't like to see things ahead of broadcast. If it ends up not being shown at all then of course I'll be searching for a copy, but barring that I can wait to see it.
Sorry Teej, only pullin' yer leg.
At the time, I thought the Tracey Ash site was a publicity stunt of some kind, probably to herald the Brass Eye repeats, and left messages to this effect on 'her' messageboard. If indeed it was a hoax orginating from the Morris camp for inclusion in the Brass Eye Special, it will be interesting to see if comments from anyone who smelled a rat will make it into the show. My guess is they won't - Morris edits out contributors who aren't fooled to make his scams seem more perfect - eg: Clare Rayner's comments on the dog-drug machine.
>Morris edits out contributors who aren't fooled to make his scams seem more perfect - eg: Clare Rayner's comments on the dog-drug machine.
>>Morris edits out contributors who aren't fooled to make his scams seem more perfect - eg: Clare Rayner's comments on the dog-drug machine.
> Maybe, and this is a fairly fat maybe, clips from sequences not shown in Brass Eye and The Day Today that appear in the title sequence etc, were scams that went awry and salvaged to form montages.
It's the most obvious conclusion, and the Corpses say as much (in the Day Today edit news, I think). We can only speculate on what happened during his interview with John Prescott at the Labour Party conference...
So the whole this was a conspiracy, buy Aphex Twin.
