So E4 finally had the balls to repeat a 'director's cut' of Brass Eye.
Seeing as the show that 'would never, ever, be allowed a repeat' has been repeated, what (or who) is stopping it being released on Video/DVD? Surely any legal mumbo-jumbo was cleared up for the repeats to be allowed? eg - David Amiss disclaimer at the end of the Drugs episode.
Is the video banned because of the celeb wind-ups? If yes, then how come Ali-G gets away with a video release?
This needs clearing up.

Hurrah!

Didn't know it had been stopped. Do you know something the rest of us don't, or is this merely conjecture?
the blackstar website tells us brass eye is not yet available, and to try again soon... but as for unreleased vids, it tells us the vid is not available for retail... there for emplying brass eye is in the works and may come through at some point, they are waiting for the signal.... for that info you should go to... http://artists3.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/DJ_Spaceboy/
I just spoke to a C4 person on the phone and they said there's nothing on the 'system' regarding a Brass Eye video release. He said it's probably up to Chris Morris as to whether it happens or not.
Cool! I can't imagine Chris not wanting to release it.
I've just had a thought...
Maybe Chris is waiting for Brass Eye Special to air, so that he can put them all on the same video(s).?

What was the disclaimer?
>What was the disclaimer?
Something to the effect that David Amess 'strongly condemns recreational drug use'.
Been bugging me for four years, that had.
Broadcast clearance is completely different to video clearance. WAKE UP!!!

According to DigiGuide What's On this morning, the Brass Eye Special is a documentary about the series. Which quite appeals to me, to be honest (except, it's likely to be full of Channel Four bullshit.)
However, according to all of the other listings I've seen, it's going to be another regular episode.
Perhaps DigiGuide have got confused over the format of Brass Eye? :-)
It really is quite simple (or complicated).
Because of the very nature of Mr Morris "stings" only very limited release forms were made up for the "stars" to sign. These did not include any permission for video release and most of them are hardly likely to give their permission now.
It's rather like a similar situation which happened with Live Aid - one of the biggest events in popular culture in the 80s, yet no clips ever shown, no video of highlights, no TV repeats. Again, last minute contracts which would take too long and cost to much to re-negotiate.
>...yet no clips ever shown, no video of highlights, no TV repeats.
But Brass Eye has now been repeated in full. Am I wrong in saying that some renegotiation had to take place to allow this to happen? (cf. David Amess apology, Graham Bright interview cut)
Therefore, if the rights have also been renegotiated, I would imagine video rights would have been discussed at the same time. I'm not claiming any great knowledge of these things, but a video release could help to recoup C4's legal costs for all the hassle, so it's in their interests to pursue it.
I'm just hopeful, that's all.
But would enough people buy it to make it worth releasing?
>It's rather like a similar situation which happened with Live Aid - one of the biggest events in popular culture in the 80s, yet no clips ever shown
Apart from the clips that are regularly shown.
Imagine how terrible the whole day would have been if Buster had plummeted into the Atlantic.
Unless you lived in Philadelphia, obviously.

I thought that too for a bit, then I realised that they usually show Band Aid.
The seven-hour 'Live Aid' evening on BBC2 in 1995 springs to mind. This doesn't detract from the original point though.
Negotiations have been very difficult in some cases during the build up to the latest 'Brass Eye' edit. I'm sure video clearance has been seeked, but some of these people who turn up (like Ames) are essential to the structure of the show, making, say, an Ames-less video release much more difficult to prepare. Who knows, maybe he'll ask for a charity payment in return for video rights too. With the complex edit history of 'Brass Eye', yet another version for video release would hardly be sniffed at.
Here's hoping anyway...

I heard a rumour that Geldof was starting to work on getting clearances for a special 20th anniversary CD issue...
