>Got the Goodies book over Chrimbo. Very disappointed to see it was set out as an A-Z
That would have been better had the episode guide been seperated and at the start of the book, not under G for Goodies.
>As someone who missed a large portion of '70s Britcom through being otherwise engaged in another country, I was hoping this book'd be an interesting contextualisation of the Goodies "phenomenon" but it was a seemingly disconnected selection of anecdotes about panto appearances.
Nice as far as it goes but just short and sweet entries, the author has obviously been to an awful lot of Goodies related stage shows and recordings though. I can imagine it now, the author at the recording of Wowfabgroovy "Hey, look, Bill is wearing a Simpsons T-shirt, that will be useful to remember if ever I write an A to Z on the Goodies".
> Useful as a reference guide, yes, but with reference to what? Certainly not a full video release of the series or even a memory-jogging compilation show.
And a few notible absent shows too, 'Once upon A Time' - the radio 4 panto with Graeme and Tim seems missing, unless it's buried somewhere else in the book.
>A wasted opportunity, sadly, to right the wrong of the Root. And I note an acknowledgement to Bean Is A Carrot. Well, I think the NOTBBC guide is far better. So there.
The NotBBC guide will probably will be a much better reference of The Goodies episodes when eventually completed. Full marks for the guide presented so far.
I agree with all the comments here on this Ross's Goodies tome. I did indeed provide the author with a great deal of accurate information, most of which was renedered inaccurate in his hands. I wish to disassociate myself from the book.

Should have got your named removed from the acknowledgements. I did once, from a book that I would rather burn than look at. And no, I'm not disclosing what it was.

Go on TJ. Please. I'm intrigued now.
Bet it was Peter Haining's 20 Years In The TARDIS or something.

Oh no... nothing quite _that_ shameful...

From the new issue of Q Magazine:
THE GOODIES
Funky Gibbon - The Best Of...
In which Ian Gittins misses the point, as do all rock journos when trying to write about comedy. One star.

That whole new CD release has rather missed the point. "Yum Yum" is still available for just slightly more money with all the same tracks with a few extra as well. Not sure why they have released another greatest hits compilation (no publicity to cash in on) but it would have been so much nicer to have an album released in full, preferably "Nothing to do With Us" would be my choice.
I was resisting the temptation, but, like a fish to water...

Wow! Your copy arrived safely, eh?
The problems are manifold and, for a book I was looking forward to, unreadable and extremely unreliable. No paragraphing and a loose understanding of grammar - great work, Robert.
>And I note an acknowledgement to Bean Is A Carrot.
She's credited for the Toothpick Companion too. Did I spell everything right, Bean?
I will eventually get to the end of TC, even if it takes as long as 'In-Vision' magazine did with 'Dr Who'.

Re:Goodies records.
The latest issue of Record Collector has a three page interview with Bill about Goodies records. Quite good, but with one too many errors for me to excuse their turning my offer down to write a Goodies article for them. Arses.
One special note is Bill's comment that he has mountains of tapes at home, full of studio sessions and jams. Which is funny because, depending which day you ask him, these either don't exist or are in the hands of record labels/BBC.
Big section of TC planned for Oddie songs. Don't hold your breath...

Perfectly. Well done.

I don't think he has a memory at all.
