>You'll only see video used for news, reality TV and daytime soaps.
And most British sitcoms/comedy series/comedy dramas. Did you know "Outside Edge" was shot on video?
Really? What did they do to it, then? Filter it to buggery?
Surely, in real life, amateur cricket doesn't involve that much lighting equipment?
Good show, mind.
A lighting cameraman I know worked on the series. He tells me it all depends on the lighting - one can light for video, or for film. Even if one shoots on video, if one lights for film, it can look subtly different, ie. as if shot on film. Filters also play a part. He is adamant that "Outside Edge" was shot on video despite my protestations to the contrary. (However, unlike, say, "Heartbeat", also shot on Digi-Beta, no drop-framing/FRV was necessary.)
He was also a fund of amusing anecdotes about filming mishaps on "Dempsey and Makepeace" (shot on film) including the accidental demolition of a listed building - the dynamite was placed round the wrong warehouse by an incompetent fx team, and the knackered, condemned warehouse my friend had his camera trained on was left standing!
