Great to renew acquaintance with the section on him - does anyone know, where does the early 70's clip of him saying, "Today the BBC, tomorrow - ITV, if they'll have me!" come from? It was on Heroes of Comedy, and the Radio 1 doc in 97. Was it from the last-gasp satire show Up Sunday, maybe?

Not sure, looks early '70s to me but...

Pedantic point, the record 'I Want My Baby Back' was actually by Jimmy Cross, not Cliff (who was of course the late '60s/early '70s reggae star... interesting thought though). I found the track on Napster the other night, quite bizarre.

I note that the BBC series 1 (TV) was preceeded by a special, I assume from this is where I remember an opening sequence where a Rolls Royce pulls up with an ITV number plate. Ev is taken out, bound and gagged, from the boot, and buried (possibly in a coffin, can't remember). The Rolls drives off, and a Morris Minor with the plate BBC1 drives up and the occupants dig him up again and whisk him away...

I've never seen the first BBC Christmas special. I really hope it's part of the Paramount schedules this year.

Thanks for the Cross / Cliff correction. As we said, we're in the middle of updating the page at the moment. The update will have loads more bits and pieces.

Did anyone ever find out what had happened as regard Paramount saying that the Thames shows "no longer exist in a broadcastable format"? Personally I reckon that story is pants (either that or what they really meant was "it hasn't been transferred to digital and we can't be bothered doing it"), but you never know...
