And there's a few new bits (Nick Bateman in the background and Judy's Baps)

Perhaps an article for Edit News.... well perhaps not!

AS POSTED IN THE SOTCAA FORUM:-
100 Moments...Edits Posted Mon Jan 1 23:52:25 GMT 2001 by george

#4>Bee Gees/Clive Anderson

Instead of stills of the actual show, in tonight's broadcast, newspaper headlines/pages are shown instead.

#3> Changed to Judy Finnegan exposing her bra at the TV awards.

No proper reason given. Just a pithy caption. Not really a hell moment, IMHO. Just the sort fo thing that can and does occasionally happen at live events.

Kate Thornton was able to spew some fresh claptrap at the camera, and they also had the Fashion Editor of The Sun pondering as to why JF was wearing a white bra under a black dress (I kid you not - it's on VHS tape). More pics of press headlines/pages.

....and finally...what on earth is it with these soddin' clip shows these days? At one time you'd see on the captions both the production company and broadcaster if applicable. Take University Challenge. 100 Moments....tagged it as (BBC2). Shurely it should read Granada Television for BBC (?) - Or is this more laziness creeping in?

The only ITV company to be named specifically was Tyne Tees - mainly due to their entry with a regional programme with the Sex Pistols. Oh and they happened to make the programme too...

What was the original #3?

I only saw the end of the show but it struck me that TV must REALLY be in decline, as all the "moments from hell" happened in the last few years - except for the Sam Fox thing - which doesn't seem to have been her fault at all

The earlier clips were all non-PC TV shows, mainly sitcoms and home improvement shows, the later clips were all recent...why did I sit through that twice?

Watching the climax of this again, I was struck that even Stuart Maconie (who wrote the bloody thing) ended up saying that the number one, worst of all, pinnacle of bad TV (Richard Madeley doing a perfectly credible Ali G impression) was actually pretty good.

"... and you realise he's going to pull it off!"

Yes, Stuart. It's just TV. Not Hell. Just TV.

Yeah frightening stuff...they should do a programme about these sort of programmes 100 Worst Chart Programs,
and they won't need to buy the rights to any of the clips they show.

Does ch4 want to hire me?

Did anyone else notice that alot of the clips seemed to directly contradict what the previous talking head had been twatting on about? Eg. someone said that in Mind Your Language "all" the Asian characters wobbled their heads from side to side as they spoke - cue a clip of an Asian character emphatically not doing this. There were other examples too, I wonder if it was done deliberately to show up the ignorant prejudices of the contributors.

Ah yes, but it's great to see 100 Moments... attack shows such as *Mind Your Language* as being nasty - *laugh at Jonny Foreigner* as Ms Ball said, only to go and have a snigger at shows based on foreign formats, or European childrens drama dubbed into English. Foreigners eh? Oh, hang on, it makes a complete nonsense of what we just said. Ah well, no-one will notice, just prep the idiot board for the next clip selection.

Wasn't it Tara Palmer-Tomkinson on the Frank Skinner show? That particular episode was repeated on Paramount last night - might that have presented C4 with problems in getting hold of a clip, then?

Agreed. There's a fine line between pedantry and making a complete idiot of yourself in public. No, wait, there isn't.

It just bugged me how Stuart Maconie has appeared on virtually every type of these clip shows within the past month or so. Whenever he comes on, the caption says that he's a 'Broadcaster' but I've never seen him on TV apart from this obscure film review shown on ITV Nighttime ages ago... and clip shows of course.

He appeared with his (then) writing partner Andrew Collins on 'Naked City', Channel 4's late-night Word-a-like, also responsible for the first TV appearance of Skunk Anansie and launching the unstoppable broadcasting careers of Johnny Vaughn and, er, Catlin Moran. Plus he has done quite a bit of radio, so is definitely a broadcaster. And he is from Wigan, which is always a plus point in my books.

Yes - it was class, and I've kept my video copy to this day. Notice how the people behind 'Minipops' were prepared to talk on that (they appeared to have been genuinely shocked by some of the reactions that the show provoked), but refused to comply with the C4 effort, even to the extent of refusing to licence the original tapes. Maybe because they knew that they wouldn't stand a chance against idiot talking head morons.
