Why I'm Pissed off with Channel 4 Posted Tue Dec 19 10:33:16 GMT 2000 by 'Johnny Banana'

Now usually I like channel 4 & was pleased when it was announced that they would show Series 7 of Friends first but got extremley Pissed off when TV Times anounced that Friends as well as other programmes were going to be on the New E4 channel. You may think this not a problem & that I should as my mate to record it but you can't record digital on to VCR's at the moment so I'll Never FUCKING see IT. All I hope is that it is shown soon after been on E4 & that they don't do the same with Futurama!!!!

1) Yes you can
2) though not if your mate has SkyDigital as E4 won't be on it
3) It'll be on Channel 4 in a few months, before it would be normally

Poor you, no Friends. It's a good job you're not missing anything watchable.

Isn't the same happening with ER. Surely i'm not the only one who thinks its watchable?

By the way, what's that advert for E4 all about? Using the old C4 ident? Why?

ER is worth watching for the obscure cameos, copious amounts of violently induced wounds, and badly orchestrated awkward scenes.
And cute doctors.
Of Course.

Not worth watching now that Juliana Margulies has gone.

What! she was so annoying! at least we don't have to watch her whinging all the time.
I'm looking forward to seeing who they put in the coma- Mark Green or his girlfriend for that emphatic and dramatic tear jerking end to this series...

Awww, did she annoy you 'cos you fancied Clooney? Uggggh! Nope, she was lovely, so is Alex Kingston. And at least they aren't as bad as that daft blonde bitch who was in it last year. Oh how I laughed when she got stabbed to death.

The character was called Lucy wasn't she? Miserable bitch. Didn't she leave because she wasn't getting enough storylines and there were too many new characters and cameos getting them all? Idiot.

If they are putting most of the comedy/youth programming on E4, what are they going to replace it with on Ch4?

I'm not happy about this either, JOHNNY BANANA, they probably will do the same thing with Futurama. And despite the existance of phrases like "free-to-air", there is no such thing as free digital TV - you have to pay for it somewhere down the line, and I for one can't afford to. And if E4 programmes get poor ratings on E4, what are the chances they'll be transferred to Ch4 at all?

Nah, E4 probably won't be allowed to show Futurama - it's gonna be on Sky One first, I can't see it going through yet another channel before making it to terrestrial. Then again, Film Four show films before C4 but after Sky, so who knows...?

Is E4 free-to-air, then? If that's the case then in a few years we'll ALL have it, due to terrestrial TV going bye-byes and stuff. Plus Friends and ER will still be on C4 at the same point as always - it's just that they'll premiere on E4 rather than Sky One.

I'm pretty sure its not free-to-air - i think it monthly subscription a la Film Four. I don't think we get it on OnDigital anyway (but we are getting Paramount - hurrah! Sorry)

E4 will be a 'bonus primary channel' on OnDigital. That means it isn't technically a FTA channel, but you get it free if you subscribe to any of the usual channels (Sky One, PlayUK etc.).
Why not do what I've done, out of sheer Simpsons desperation I nipped down to Comet, picked up an OnDigital prepay pack for £99 (12 months subscription, up to 10 FTA's and 8 primary channels) and got a free £80 telly too. Up to 21 unseen on BBC2 Simpsons episodes a week, I can't fucking wait. Even the adverts can't detract from my joy.

I miss the joy of a set top box.

"how can one little insulated cable bring so much happiness?"

You aren't strange. Well you might be, but that doesn't detract from the fact that you are right. It was her.

Channel 800 on OnDigitial is (currently) where E4's test signal resides.

Last time I looked it was some bad musak and a widescreen caption saying "Channel 4 Digital Services" under the four squares in the current 4 style.

Sadly while the caption was designed for widescreen, it wasn't displayed in it - nicely it was in 4:3...

It is now on Channel 42. You will need to do a "Store Channels" to renumber it correctly - an add channels will not move it as it is an existing service. All that is changed is that it now has a PID.

I heard there are trailers on it now.

They aren't/weren't sending the ws switching signal. Widescreen viewers and 4:3 viewers with a widescreen option on their TV can adjust this manually, others can't.
