Ending every fucking sentance with either ",right?" or ", yeah?".

Congregating in huge groups to hold conversations in doorways or on stairs and busy footpaths.

People who don't go to work going into town at lunchtime and getting in my way.

Unemployed people, students, pensioners, children, the lazy, ladies who lunch and have nothing better to do, etc

Why can't they just go to town and leave before noon, or go in after 2pm?

This would have the great advantage of saving me time, and spreading shop-workers' load of work

The same goes for the students here that think it's somehow a good idea to put large magnets on the screens, break of the disk drive doors, steal the tracking balls from the mice (resulting in sterile mice) and putting permenant black marker pen on the keyboards.

Absolutely - the kids don't know what its about. Are they really saying "My son has made an informed decision and thinks this" - or course not, they are using their kids as camera fodder.

It is especially bad when the parents are going after some innocent person who has the misfortune to be a paediotrician or something similar.

Why thank you - nice to be agreed with. Not sure they're using their kids as camera fodder so much as a sort of moral trump card. The minute anyone invokes children as an issue they become un-contradictable somehow... "Look! Er, no. Working-class people in general are the millions who just get their heads down and get on with it, not the cheats and slackers who make the most noise. But let's not go there.

It's not a working class phenomenon, even if the most potent recent example has to be those anti-paedophile fuckwits on that estate in Portsmouth... yeah, giving them a banner with the word "kill" on it, you're really interested in the moral welfare of your offspring, aintcha.
Far more common are the purportedly liberal types who drag their winkies along on supposedly right-on demos, for causes which I as a fellow bleeding-heart pinko would support wholeheartedly if they weren't using two-year olds as human shields against armoured riot police. "Think of the children! Think of the children!" YOU think of the children, you're the ones who are gonna get them tear-gassed...

It was only a spot of fun.

Of course, I don't want to ban them. I don't know where I'd be without Char. She's been an absolute find. The Earl Grey incident notwithstanding (can you imagine?) she's been a treasure. And I do enjoy chatting to her occasionally. How she manages whole conversations without recourse to the letter H is beyond me.

Then there's my landscape gardeners, Adrian and Julian. They're a bit nouveau riche, which is a sort of working class, isn't it? Their taste is rather vulgar (pine furniture, BMWs, you know the sort of thing) but they do amuse me and they certainly know the best place to plant a hibiscus.

The whole paedophile issues made me feel more sorry for the paedophiles. I know this is wrong, but they are humans too.

I feel that I am wrong in dismissing all working class as wrong. Which makes me an idiot. It is so hard sometimes...
The issues which concern children foremost often tend to overlook the opinions of the child, and often that child will be swayed by their parents opinions.

It is a long and dark road.

It's hardly unlikely that the treatment is going to work, though. Very idealistic to think that they ought to be treated, but the chances of re-offending are high whether they're merely locked up or treated while locked up. Paedophilia falls under the headings of fetishes (albeit a very extreme one) and they're incredibly difficult to control - no drugs as yet work upon the urges, unless you dose em up with morphia so they don't have a cogent thought in their heads, and therapy ain't gonna get the leanings out.

Inevitably, they will always have this problem, but it depends whether they can control it or not. If they're incapable of controlling it then it's best that they be kept where they can't harm any children [and also that no parents can harm THEM]. Wherever they go, they're gonna be hounded - more so in prison, from what I've heard. Paedophiles are generally worse treated than rapists by the other inamates.

I say we send em all to deserted island. Like the Isle Of Man.

ahem.

Paedophilia, like any paraphilia (extreme sexual fetish) is pretty much there for good once it starts. I'm slightly opposed to keeping them in prison mostly because it costs a fucking great deal of money. But subbes is indeed right that in 99% of cases treatment just simply does not work. Paedophiles have the highest rates of recidivism, and living in an open community is often simply too much for them, so a locked ward or prison is the best option all round. Perhaps we should, as subbes recommends, send them somewhere they can do no harm, like Middlesborough, although now I mention it......

That'd be fair enough, but it don't give them an excuse to freak 'em up for the cameras, does it? The point is that some people are *deliberately* taking their kids to these things to give it some kind of gravitas. Yeah, fucking nice one - make your point by putting your kids into a potentially hostile, confrontational situation. They'll love you for it.

I'd thought it through quite thoroughly thank you very much. I've stuck up for you in the past RHC but quite frankly I think you're very misguided on this one. Why the Hell should my tax pay to 'rehabilitate' paedophiles (it cannot be done, it's been proved time and again) when schools are chronically underfunded and our public health system is suffering from a severe lack of cash? The thing is, although a great deal of people may be sexually attracted to children, they don't act on it, they have enough self control to not do it. Anyone who actively seeks out children in order to sexually assault and rape them is wrong in the head. The thing is, given a choice between chemotherapy for someone dying of cancer, and so called 'rehabilitation' for paedophiles, I know which one I'd go for.

OK, so you may not agree, but from what you've posted here it appears that you're way out of your depth on this. I'm lucky enough not to have been raped or abused, but I know people who have and when you see first hand the effects of child sexual abuse on an entire family, it certainly puts the issue into perspective.
