In The Red

Does anyone remember this show. Come on, it wasn't that long ago...
Basically it was Warren Clarke playing a hard-drinking Radio 4 crime journo. And there was this madman going around blowing up bank managers and Warren Clarke kept getting phone calls from him. Meanwhile Stephen Fry and John Bird were controllers of Radios 2 and 4 respectively and they were trying to get the Director General of the BBC fired.
It was a wonderful script with a wonderful cast and loads of amusing moments from Fry and Bird. There was also Sally Phillips playing a Charlotte Green style newsreader who would smoke dope before, during and after the news which is why she sounded so stoned. And Rebecca Front was the news director. Oh it was fab!
It started life as a radio show which I've heard, but it sounded like a lot of radio dramas, woodenly acted with pisspoor sound effects. Shame really as it's a great story.

I remember it.
It was billed as being somewhat controversial at the time wasn't it?
I thought it was excellent. (the tv version)

I saw it in Australia. Why was it billed as controversial? I didn't find it controversial. Then again there are probably people who read Radio Times who find Dead Ringers controversial.

It was.
