Yeah but is this actually going to happen? I can`t see Crapton or Granada buying one or other. Their both too big. Everyone says its going to happen but I can see it being two or even three (Scotland) companies

It ain't gonna happen...well not yet anyway. The Heritage Secretary has announced that the forthcoming White Paper will not lift the restriction on one company owning both London franchises.

I see the point the ident boys are stressing, and it's a vald and relevant one, but I for one am jaded by the concept of local broadcasting, for in Liverpool we've had to endure twenty-odd bloody years of Phil bleeding Redmond on the front of local newspapers, looking exasperated and saying "I don't understand why the Malawian Broadcasting Corporation can't be situated on Merseyside". Some people just have the WRONG idea.

Yeah well I know where you are coming from, Redmond is a tit anyway, he had his chance in 1991 when he participated in Yorkshire/Tyne Tees' bid for the NW franchise. They lost, despite bidding the most money, because they failed the quality threshold. The IBA had no problems with Yorkshire's or Tyne Tees' involvement, but Redmond put them off.

From what I've read, Redmond's ideas were a bit odd. YTV/TT were backing it for political reasons, and a feeling that it would take something truly earth shattering to unseat Granada.

I'd say that regional ITV is dying. It's sad to say. And as long as it keeps on dying like that, it won't matter to me one bit if they all merged together. just as long as I don't have to sit there and watch John Thaw wandering around telling us how good ITV drama is.

I rarely watch ITV - Carlton London has about 1 good programme a year. LWT seems to have little of interest too. Sad but true.

I have to agree LWT has got crap since it change the stripes for one coloured lettering in 1997. The company is also getting lasy in it's presentation. For example they did the new logo in March but the same one is used for telling oyu what is coming up next, the production slide is the same since 1997 they used ITV breakbumpers & ITV menus. At least Carlton do have their own name on Menus & have updated production captions etc... but they still have that bloody ITV breakbumper & Don't have local trailers & when they do they still say ITV on them.

In my mind, it makes more sense to put ITV on local trailers in London - it enables each company to promote each others programmes should they wish, without even mentioning the other station.

It also gives the capital a coherent brand between two very seperate company.

London is a special case. I think they made the right decision.
