The director's cut of Apocalypse Now...

...adds a whole extra hour of material. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of this film, but surely it was long enough already?

Christ, that's gonna be one long film, I didn't think there was much more violence to be shown?

I think it's mainly footage of the film crew pushing Marlon up the hill to that hut.

What kind of seeing to, exactly? I mean, I don't know what kind of cinemas you frequent.

The cinema version, when it gets an outing in some dead-end 'midnight screening' at your local mutiplex, is slightly longer than the video edit. There is quite a bit of the sacrificial killing missing on the video. Lots of close ups of the perforated carcass.
I'm not trying to be distasteful, but the ending is a lot more effective with that section included.

Does anyone know what version was screened on C4 - the video or the cinema version?

Two sections that could be added - one where they meet the french people (which can be seen in the Hearts of Darkness doc.), and another where they shag the playboy girls - i've read the script, and niether of the scenes really addd anything. They shjould leave it alone.
