Jon, I've still not bought it (yes, yes, I know....!). Any good? Heard them do a couple of songs live on the Radio - sounded good.
Right Now: Scott Walker

Sorry... though when you turn 16 you can get a cheque book. Or you could ask your parents to write you one. That's whyat I used to do.
I meant "what".
Aisha! I'm VIBrating!
Resvoir Dogs sound track, v.good.
This week I have mostly been listening to Taramasalata.
not quite up to Avant Hard standards IMHO, I prefered the rough edges. Plus I preferred Little Black Rocks to anything on Avant Hard apart from Machine Is Bored With Love. And Metal Fingers... and... er... sod it, it's all good!
amongst others:nofx,nerf herder,no use for a name,bowling for soup,a,cable,dog toffee,hundred reasons,swingin' utters,the ataris,less than jake,deftones,van halen,understand,papa roach and foo fighters
Aaaaaaack! You have excellent music taste. Well, on the whole anyway. Can't stand some of the bands you listed, but still...
>amongst others:nofx,nerf herder,no use for a name,bowling for soup,a,cable,dog toffee,hundred reasons,swingin' utters,the ataris,less than jake,deftones,van halen,understand,papa roach and foo fighters
Early Glovebox and The Humorless Lesbians.
thank you for the compliment paul, which of my beloved bands do you dislike?
I have been listening to Gospeed You Black Emperor! but I can't quite decide whether they're brilliant or utter rubbish. Anybody have an opinion?
Yes.
Brilliant.
Yes.
Goth.
[or: quite good but not the best.]
Santa's Little Helper: you asked for this, so here are my opinions (note: boring to everyone else, so feel free to leave this now):
nofx
Excellent. Masters at what they do.
nerf herder
Also excellent.
no use for a name
Decent-to-good.
bowling for soup
Nooo! I like one song of theirs (Valentino) and they were OK at Reading but they are just too slick, glossy and pre-packaged.
a,cable,dog toffee
no,no,no. Seen all three of these bands live; all three were dulllllllllllll.
hundred reasons,
Also dull live, but they covered "Surf Wax America" by Weezer so they deserve to live.
swingin' utters,the ataris,less than jake
Here we go! All three are excellent in different ways... the Utters are just good, solid meat-and-potatoes punk, the Ataris are great pop-punk-with-feeling that awakens the dormant 16 year old in everyone, and Less Than Jake are one of the few ska-punk bands that are actually any good.
deftones,
Just NO.
van halen,
I'll let this one pass.
understand,
NO. Everyone seems to like them, but they were dull live. Not THAT bad, just not my thing.
papa roach
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Fucking AWFUL band - the worst on your list. Happened to see them on MTV when flicking channels - they are truly shite and I just know that all the fucking Kerrap! Kiddiez are going to love them cos Kerrap! are gonna be marketing the hell out of them. I hope they all die, or at least contract a minor yet irritating itching illness.
and foo fighters
No strong opinion either way, though they are pretty good. However, the fact that they have sold more than 100 copies of their records means that I have to at least PRETEND I don't like them.
Bands I've been listening to this week:
Dillinger 4
Gameface
Samiam (still)
Pylon
J Church

Oh, all right then. Someone hand me a chainsaw and I will be *happy* to oblige.
Today I have mostly been regressing to Bullet With Butterfly Wings. Gosh, Corgan is a whinger, isn't he?
Soulwax, Dido, Gomez, Skunk Anansie, The Cardigans, Primal Scream, Veruca Salt, Foo Fighters, My Vitriol, PJ Harvey, Rage Against The Machine
Paul,
A dull?
are you mad?
fair point about cable being dull, the exception being their last ever gig where they put so much into each song it was truly beautiful to see,but A,they're a great band and i've never been to a gig of theirs which has been anything less than riotous, including the time they supported reef (yick!)and stole the show.(not hard admittedly)
deftones i have to be in the mood to listen to,far better live though.
on a completely unrelated note,do you like save ferris?
everyone seems to love them but i think they suck.

The Italian Job soundtrack (re-released at last!), Badly Drawn Boy, new Wu Tang Clan single, Future Sound of London and various wibbly ambient things...
PJ Harvey and Dark Side Of The Moon
Oh, and At The Drive-In, first half-decent metal album I've heard in about five years.
>Oh, and At The Drive-In, first half-decent metal album I've heard in about five years.
Is the album consistantly good, then? I've heard a couple of tracks and quite liked 'em. They put me in mind of a metal Fugazi, which gets me a bit messy, frankly.
Have you heard System of a Down's first album? Kind of Dead Kennedys meets Pantera sort of noise. This me like...having said that the album I've spent the most time listening to this week has been the Organ Radio 5 compilation, probably the least *rrrrock* thing that Org have put out in the last couple of years.
They're certainly consistent, so if you like one track you'll like the album. The NME describe them as "a riot-din colossus of shouty-punk frenetics" which kinda sums them up real neat. I summed them up as a cross between Sepultura, mid-period Faith No More and a touch of Soundgarden, but then that's me.
Good singles reviews all round in the 'E this week, especially North Mississippi Allstars who are described as "Blooze-rock fret-wank frippery for the terminally dead".
Wow! What interesting, varied, cool, record collections you all have.I wish you were my friends. The Tony Hatch Sound ?How very Camden 1994.Add N to X, chancers from the stillborn MM "Romo" scene and as for XTC ,a bunch of carrot crunching Pagans .
Denim, dementia,Momus is an onanastic oaf,Elvis Costello wears glasses for Gods sake! All your bands are souless, too clever for their own good smart arses.
There is only one band-----------OASIS.
Go let it out.

Dear me... Oasis fans never change do they?
And for your information, Oasis are even more Camden 1994 than Tony Hatch.
>Paul,
>A dull?
>are you mad?
Admittedly they put a lot into their shows and I suppose if you like their music then they're live shows aren't dull, but musically I find them boring and derivative. Sorry.
>deftones i have to be in the mood to listen to,far better live though.
Again, I can see how the Deftones would be interesting live, but they're just not my cup of tea. Tea isn't my cup of tea either, as I drink coffee. But I digress.
>on a completely unrelated note,do you like save ferris?
>everyone seems to love them but i think they suck.
Save Ferris are bad-to-mediocre, in my opinion. Not really my thing, but they have a couple of catchy, harmless tunes. The singer is apparently a bit of a sex symbol across the pond. Weird coincidence: I was watching "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" on video, and immediately after it finished Save Ferris were playing in the background on TV... even more bizarrely, it was in the background to a scene of the Thomas the Tank Engine movie.

>snuff
Yessssss! Snuff are ace. If you only know them for their covers (not you specifically SLH) then you're missing out.
>bloodhound gang
Noooo! One of their songs a few years back amused me (Fire Water Burn, mainly for the line "I'm not black like Barry White/No, I'm white like Frank Black is") but I HATE most of their stuff. People I know with otherwise fairly good taste like them, but I think they are awful. Blink 182 piss me off too; passable, sometimes alright pop-punk with twattish attitudes. And they SUCK live.
>weezer
YESSSSSSSS! In an indie club that I go to where they usually play mainly Charlatans/Shed 7/Blur type stuff, they played LTJ, then Bosstones, then Weezer. I was in heaven. Gosh, that's interesting, isn't it?
>blink 182
See: Bloodhound Gang
>symposium
Liked the first few singles, but then they went shit. Then they split up! Ha ha ha! Remember talking to Wojtek (or whatever the fuck he's called) briefly before a gig once and being shocked that he'd never heard of the Descendents when they were pretending they were super-punk cos they liked Minor Threat and SNFU. Oh, and I own a copy of the withdrawn version of the "One Day At A Time" CD with "The Girl With The Brains In Her Feet" instead of "Fear of Flying" - for some reason, a record shop in Sheffield ended up with this version instead of the one that I saw everwhere else. Odd, eh? And dull, too.
>stiff little fingers
Not heard much by them, other than the ones that everyone knows.
>me first and the gimme gimmes
Great stuff. Anyone reading this who likes the idea of cheesy 70s songs/musical tracks being covered by a pop-punk band must check these out. One of the few bands liked by my non-punky friends, and a great band to play at parties (just like Oizone, who covered Spice Girls, B*Witched et al in an oi-punk style. Class.).
>mallrats soundtrack
Squirtgun's track on that is ace.
>less than jake (again)
Still good.

ROCK!!!
Sorry for everyone else, this must be super boring. Lucky for you that the Simpsons is about to start, eh readers?
can anyone remember the name of that group that used to calll themselves Johnny and The Self Abusers?
I quite like ash
>can anyone remember the name of that group that used to calll themselves Johnny and The Self Abusers?
Simple Minds, I believe.
You obviously watch the same late night ch4 rubbish as me Justin.
Nick Warninks reads the music press too much and is winding us up.He obviously likes all the artistes he slagged off and Oasis was the most dreariest band to champion in the payoff.
Has anyone heard Galaxy Defenders CD by Computer Rockers? Its rock cover versions of old arcade video game themes.
Just been walking round listening to the Gladiator soundtrack all week...
