I hope you don't really mean that Jase. I said some nice things about you in the 'best Forum Threads Today' thread. I hope you haven't taken the EVIL GASBOTTLE stuff to heart... It's all in fun, honest.

Well that says it all. Why was this thread started? To actually discuss bad regional TV, or to score cheap points against the side of the forum that isn't quite as interested in comedy?

Why do I contribute to a forum when I know my messages are being regarded (if not actually read) with contempt?

But, perhaps I won't leave just yet - I'll start a thread about BBC Northern Ireland's comedy output, like 'PK Tonight' or 'Give My Head Peace' and see what response that gets...

Subject: Re: Worst Local TV Programmes? [ Previous Message ]
Posted By 'Damian' on Fri Nov 3 13:10:08 GMT 2000:

Obviously I don't think anyone (apart from Jon) hates me.

My complaint is about the sneering attitude of some contributors to the forum towards the others as a group. And this thread is a very good example of it, joke or not.

And if it was a joke, did it seem especially funny to anyone? 'I think local TV is rubbish' - that's hardly a cutting parody of the no.1 thread is it?

Subject: Re: Worst Local TV Programmes? [ Previous Message ]
Posted By 'Al' on Fri Nov 3 13:21:20 GMT 2000:

No, OK, it's not very clever, or funny. But I don't think anyone's really sneering at you. I gleefully join in with the IDENTS IDEANTSF nonsense because I think it's silly, and hence it amuses me. I'm sure that's how most people feel about it. And I don't really enjoy local news, no. Jase has some very interesting theories about why I don't, which may well be true. I think, speaking for myself, I'm just a bit bemused about the enthusiasm they generate. But I wouldn't want to seem sneery or superior - live and let live and all that.

It'd get a responce from me as both are great. But don't forget that all SkyDigital viewers right across the UK can watch these progs on BBC Choice NI on channel Nine hundred and something or other (160 in N Ireland)

Er, No, I don't hate you Jon.

George :)

PS> I only attack local shows because the vast majority of them are really crap, espically BBC Look East, which is smug rural lobby pap, cosy with the Tories (Private Eye readers will know why), and hates town people, who make up the vast majority of the audience.

For example (and this is true), on the day of the Hatfield Rail Accident, Look East gave William Hague a free soapbox to twat on about pig farmers in Suffolk.

I'm not sure I actually *hate* local TV, but I am truly amazed that something like 570 postings have been sent on Best Local TV Programmes - not even the forum radio show (where, let's face it, you just add a track - not difficult) is likely to catch it up.

Sincere question: Can someone summarise the story so far in BLTVP? Maybe we're missing out....

Well...

It's the theme musics, the graphics, the sets but mainly the bizarre personalities. It's the fact that these programmes are on several times throughout the day (so there's always something new to mention).

It's Peter Levy and Sarah Badham parodying sexual chemistry on Look North, it's Mike Morris visibly withering during each edition of Calendar, it's Sean Rafferty's handkerchief, Mike Neville's ego, Guy Michelmore's music royalties, Fred Dinenage's co-presenter, or Mark Owen's reasons for quitting...

Have a look at:
http://members.nbci.com/roundthe/regions.html

It's not that we take it that seriously, you know - it's just a bit of fun!!

Heavyweight newsreader Mike Neville, CyptonFactor West Tonight with Gordon Burns, and we have to ask, MetroPoll - is this the crappest name for a parlimanetary prog yet?

I watched the start of this on BBC TWO Digital Couldn'tBeArsedWithRegionsYet.

What does it mean, anyway? Why couldn't they have left it as 'Around Westminster' as London hasn't changed its position geographically - it is still 'around' the nation's Parliament.

Ok, so it has lots of London Mayoral stuff now. But what does it mean?

I'm wondering whether I prefered it to what BBC TWO Analogue NI were showing - namely Teletubbies in Irish!

Another point - why do listings mags list digital variations (from analogue) for BBC ONE in England when these only apply to DSat? And why do they only list digital variations for BBC TWO inside England when they also exist elsewhere.

Anyway....

Digital Teletext is just as bad for this. UK TODAY it proclaims. I just go AHEM! Newsroom South East!

>And why do they only list digital variations for BBC TWO inside England when they also exist elsewhere.

BBC Text's regions on OnDigital seems to be offering BBC ONE Ireland rather than BBC ONE Regional Variations. Why it thinks that Ireland is the only region, I don't know...

I thought they had finally got around to regionalising it when I saw this at the weekend. Obviously not. I wonder why it is listed as "BBC ONE Ireland" and not "BBC ONE Northern Ireland" - I have seen this in several BBC things recently. Maybe the Beeb are going for "Vague Regions" - everything north of the Watford Gap (including Scotland) should be BBC North from now on....
