Yes, I noticed in the 1980 show they take a very elastic approach to chronology, slipping in stuff that happened in later years to make more of a story (eg. they had Liquid Gold's attempt at Eurovision, which was in '81).
Anyway... did we get to see Stuart maconie's views on the Royal Wedding? No doubt he claimed he was an angry young punk/ska fan who spent the whole day listening to 'Ghost Town' by The Specials in protest, although in fact he saw the entire TV coverage despite being old enough for his mum not to be able to force him to see it, like my one did. Christ, I was bored.
Was not born so memories of this year are all good.
The idea of people having rosy, unreal visions of 1981 because they weren't born (like I have of the 60s) is totally freaking me out.
Must take me teeth out and hit the hay.
It was the Year of the Riots.
Thatcher's Britain at its very bleakest.
Unemployment rising relentlessly.
Collapse of industrial infrastructure.
The people were treated with the soma of the royal wedding.
A little Marxist history lesson for you there, RHC.
And it was also the year that Pipkins bit the dust...
But it did have the Daleks back in DW, didn't it?
