There is, but they are having problems with the casting, Adams keeps re-writing each screenplay over and over again as well.
do you know who is available for casting. I think Simon Evans should play Arthur, he's got such a British voice.
And I think they should stick Boothby in there just because I love him.
I heard a rumour that it will be starring Hugh Laurie as Arthur Dent and directed by Jay Roach, who directed the Austin Powers films.
As yet, there is no truth in the rumour that Jim Yoakum will steal the script and hide it from the rest of us.
[That was a reference to Graham Chapman's coining of the number 42 as being the meaning of life. When asked by Douglas Adams what the meaning of life was, the then alcoholic Chapman answered "42", the age he thought he was going to die. He subsequently lived a bit longer, and Douglas Adams continues to deny this story.]
Any word on who's starring as the book? Not sure how well it would work without Peter Jones. Ditto for Stephen Moore as Marvin (not that he's dead, so hopefully he'll be cast).
Adams said the only person he could imagine doing Arthur, is Simon Jones, as the part was written for him. But he reckons he's too old now to fit Arthur's '30 something' age range. He says Stephen Moore is definitely in for Marvin, but apart from that the cast will be try and be as multi national as possible (meaning it will probably be all Americans).
And of course there's Trillian - brunette with specifically English accent according to the books, played on tv by... a blonde American.
Susan Sheridan (Trillian) is now working on the cartoon the Moomins- what a way to go!
Know have put this elsewhere on site, but this thread is more relevant.
I have to say, I'm with Adam's on - Arthur Dent could only be played by Simon Jones, I can't imagine anyone else potraying the same amount of grievance about everything that happened.
As for Marvin - I could put my son forward for that part - his nickname is Marvin when he is being unbelievable pessimistic - which is a great deal of the time.............
Is the movie REALLY go? I mean, Adams was talking about progress with the script on the promotional tour for Dirk Gently, which was some time in the Seventeenth Century.
Empires rise and fall faster than that.
I do remember reading in the Guardian Guide (sometime in 1998, I think) that at one point Jim Carrey was approched to play Arthur Dent. This may make any fans of the original series aghast, but at least it shows that whoever's making the thing is prepared to give it a decent budget.
Personally, I just hope they don't give the part to Hugh Grant.
Try www.douglasadams.com. There's a forum there with regular postings from Douglas Adams himself, many of which concern the filum (check the achived postings)
I interviwed Douglas Adams once.
I think Steve Coogan could make a decent go at playing Arthur Dent.
I'm serious.
I heard there was going to be a HitchHikers film back in the early 80s. David Putnam had to stall the project when he was running Columbia in 87 or whenever, so that's how long it's been 'in the pipeline'.
But what happened to the film of "Christie Malry's Own Double Entry"?
