Yes, but the R4 version was great as well.
Better...?
Maybe better. I'm not sure.
Both fnatastic, anyway.

Ooh- actually I thought it *was* marginally better on the radio- but that said it was a remarkably faithful TV transfer, subtle and true to the spirit of the original.
But the radio shows are hilarious- luckily the wordplay transfers well to television. I had always thought the radio show was a parody of that type of TV doc anyway (mainly down to the fact that I rarely, if ever, listen to documentaries on the radio).
Loved it loved it loved it. Nice to see someone else other than me starting a PLU strand (3 attempts in the past, and very few replies).
Second series for TV? Anyone?
Did enjoy the television series. Well crafted, and very subtle. Some good genuine laughs, and no annoying canned laughter. If anyone has a recording (cassette preferred)of the radio series I'd be interested, to listen to it and compare, as I don't listen much to the radio anyway.
I thought the TV transfer was better than most, in that they successfully retained the deadpan style instead of mugging up to the camera.
BTW, Cassettes of both radio series appear to be available on amazon. I'm just about to buy them myself.
Actually, something just struck me. Is it easier for a low key type show like this to succeed on the radio, because it's less likely to be noticed by the media? Jus' a thought.

Gets my vote. If there was a low point in PLU's development, it was the third radio series, which for my money was a little bit tired and strained... the TV series, though (which I only saw half of) seemed to be a very competent transfer. Does anyone know if the people who decide these things rated it a 'success'?
I've been told there isn't going to be another series, I beleive as it was not successful enough. Critically I'd have thought it was, but I guess they just weren't happy with the audience figures - anyone know vague numbers?
FACT: It got a good review from Paul Ross, standing in for G.Bushell in The Sun. He said: "like most good comedy, it comes from a R4 series". But he didn't say whether it was better/worse on the radio.
what was this? Please enlighten kindly.
Radiator did you see that programme about children's reincarnated past lives? You didn't happen to be Barry Cryer in a past life did you?
>what was this? Please enlighten kindly.
I thought you said you taped all comedy shows. Look it up on one of those comedy database websites.
anon- can't be bothered
unaware of previous lives, but will check on past life database
2nd series in pre-production at the moment. Same team.

Whoo-hoo!
btw New Sunday Format series begins Tuesday 7th at 6.30 on Radio 4. John Morton not writing it any more by the look of it, although cast including Chris Langham, Rebecca Front and Emma Kennedy suggests it should still be alright.
