What will they do about HTV News? Rename it?
>Carlton now officially own the HTV Group. HTV's productions for ITV and regional productions now become 'Carlton Productions', but so far, i've not heard back from them with regards to whether HTV will become Carlton.
The Production based side of HTV - is not being bought by carlton, neither is it's wildlife production unit!

The HTV productions such as 'The Ferret' and 'Without Motive' have been bought by Carlton. The only HTV production unit not bought by Carlton is the small unit that makes programmes for channels other than ITV.

What a bloody mess!

Yes. That's the new generic announcement used: This is Carlton - What a bloody mess!

HTV joins the fold (God help them!)
Carlton News:
Carlton Communications has acquired HTV from Granada in exchange for £181m and the 20% stake in Meridian. Carlton will now account for 40% of ITV's net advertising revenue, broadcasting to 26m homes or almost 50% of the UK population.
Carlton will now be responsible for some of HTV's production businesses, including output for GMTV and S4C, and will provide dedicated regional news and programmes for the West of England and Wales.
Gerry Murphy praised the deal and said: "This gives us a real presence in an important part of the UK." The Financial Times comments that it 'heralds a new era of co-operation within ITV.
It's like the 1930s all over again, with a certain German dictator ordering his troops to stomp into neighbouring countries, ordering everyone about while so called 'tough' Governments stand by and do nothing untikl it is too late.
The Guardian says Granada is keeping HTV's production facilities in Bristol, so presumably all HTV West productions will now carry a Granada company's logo. I guess they can just pick and choose.
A Tyne Tees production from Bristol? They'll do just enough to keep the regulators happy.

So HTV News will be a Granada Production screened on Carlton. And Calrton had the gawl to say branding was getting confusing!
Carlton ITV, don't forget! So that's 4 names where once there was one...

Mass murder will be unlikely, though, don't you think?

Mass murder of the TV stations.

Lets get one thing clear, Carlton will not be re-branding HTV,
For one reason only money, it cost them a fortune to re-brand Central they certainly will not be doing it for a NATIONAL broadcaster such as HTV.
And being English, but living about 2 cm (literally) from Wales I know how important HTV is to the Welsh and they will not change the name.
Also, HTV News will still exist, they have never re-branded any news programme with a Carlton slogan, however the Carlton star in the Central News ident isnt *that* bad.
Just remember one thing, as much as we all hate Carlton for what they have done, do you not see they know they have made a mistake, and this will most likely be changed when they can next afford it - even if they still remain power mad, taking that Devil's Advocate thing, wouldnt you want your business to do well and be well known, hence the re-branding and the re-branding of shows such as Morse and F.F. (although that disgusts me).
Im not sticking up for Carlton here, all im saying is, look at what they have done, they may not be popular with people, but they have build a business which is turning over millions for them, surely they should be applauded for that if nothing else.
And they do not now officially own HTV, the changeover according to GMG will take place NEXT year and they are officially still owned by GMG.
Carlton are not likely to change the name of a national broadcaster, with W.C. and Central it was very different, they were regional franchises, HTV (excluding West) is a national franchise and therefore there would most likely be *real* public outrage if it was re-branded, by real I mean, not only from the media industry and TV know alls, but members of the general public.
>And they do not now officially own HTV, the changeover according to GMG will take place NEXT year and they are officially still owned by GMG.
Although they do not officially own it, they are running it. In the same way, GMG doesn't own Carlton's 20% stake in Meridian, but they are managing the company as if they have.
Ownership takes time. Transferring control doesn't.

While HTV may 'technically' be a national broadcaster, it isn't. It's just an ITV region and if Cartlon want to rebrand it, they will. They're not going to let symantics interfere.

Yes they do. They've bought that too

They've bought it yes. But they don't actually own it yet. The actual ownership will be taken by GMG at the same time as ownership of HTV passes to Carlton
JUST RECIEVED E-MAIL FROM CARLTON:
"Carlton Communications currently have no plans to rename HTV. The renaming of Central and Westcountry makes sense because they bring all of our regional english stations together as one.
HTV is different to our other franchises, as it is a national broadcaster."
NATIONAL BROADCASTER...what was I saying...
Lets here it for carlton cymru

*splutter*
*spits out Cornflakes*
ARE YOU TOTALLY INSANE!?!?

(mock)STATEMENT FROM CARLTON:
Carlton will not be using Welsh as Carlton Wales' main language, because Welsh hasn't been spoken by the Welsh in Wales for about 500 years. For more information on the ancient language that is Welsh, visit our new website: http://www.carlton.com/wales?wales?wherethef**kiswales?
