At last, a thread devoted to a true star of UK TV. Remembering all those programmes: South Sport, Calendar, How, World of Sport, Friday Sportshow, Coast to Coast, Meridian Tonight, Southern Gold... And it's Fred DinEage, I think.
You are right. I spend so much time text messaging it's a wonder I can spell my own name correctly.
thanx 4 that dan!

I am an expert on FD. For HE is my hero! How!
Fred is the presenter's presenter. He always looks as if he's about to smirk and say something rude.
Fred himself was a big fun of that other Stalwart of Southampton, Jack Hargreaves.
Actually, it's Dinenage, I think you'll find. I should know, I am here in sunny Southampton with his face next to mine on a daily basis. Not in a sexual way, but oh how I wish...

Debbie Thrower reveal yourself!
>Actually, it's Dinenage, I think you'll find
Oh, surely it's *Dineage*. World Of Sport seemed somehow more urgent with him at the helm.
Dinenage - check out http://www.meridiantv.co.uk/whats_on/features-news/sandcastles/ for confirmation.
I win.
I was gutted when they replaced him on 'Pass The Buck' with Eamonnn Holmes.
It's just not the same without Fred's Facts.

I think Fred looked out of place. He is so associated with regional ITV that he sits uneasily in anything by the BBC.

Well, it's hardly conclusive, but I'll concede based on the fact that entering 'Fred Dineage' into Yahoo gets you 52 references to the great man, and 'Fred Dinenage' gets you 83.
A difference of opinion, Geoffrey...

I checked properly this time and the split is 37:26 in favour of the extra 'n'. Someone's going to have to ask the guy...

I doubt Meridian TV, his employers, would get the spelling wrong though. I'll look on Meridian Tonight this evening, that'll clear it up.
I have now watched Meridian Tonight, and I am, as I always knew, right. It's Dinenage
I have mistakenly contributed to this thread thinking it was about Fred Dibnah honking his horn with excitement at explosives.
I didn't know you were into men with big chimneys!
>I have now watched Meridian Tonight, and I am, as I always knew, right. It's Dinenage
Well, congratulations. My excuse is that, rather than actually living in an area where he broadcasts regularly, I haven't seen him on TV in about 10 years.
I think you should write to all those web-page authors who also mistakenly think it's 'Dineage'. There's even six references to 'Dinage' out there.
Country's going to the dogs, I tell ya.
