That sitcom with Mark Addy in it on BBC1 last night about the actor and screenwriter trying to make it in Hollywood.

It wasn't very good. But I was interested to read the downbeat way that Radio Times previewed it (14-20 October issue, Friday choice):

"It may be presumptuous to read too much into it, but this sitcom has been hanging around for quite some time. Also, there are no preview tapes, which is odd for a project that started shooting this time last year. On the plus side, it does come from Griff Rhys Jones and Mel Smith's Talkback Productions and does have Mark Addy (The Flinsttones IN Viva Rock Vegas, The Full MOnty) as well as Lee Majors (yes, The Six Million Dollar Man) in the cast...."

Now. Quite apart from the fact that the Talkback connection is absolutely no guarantee of quality these days (or ever - "Bonjour La Classe" anyone?), but "at least our plebby readers have heard of Smith & Jones", this is what concerned me about this....

It's a new sitcom. It's been written by (what appears to be) newcomers - anyone heard of Jim Piddock and Margaret Oberman? Now, I thought it was a bit crap, but no worse than plenty of high-profile projects by name writers and starring big celebs that RT and its ilk will happily twat on about once they know they have healthy viewing figures. Does this imply that the RT is no longer going to give any chance to new shows in any way? I am concerned...
