I just found a page by a comedy writer at http://members.aol.com/dsimon9874/ .

It has a 'create your own sketch' feature which should never ever be used by a comedy writer. I just created a sketch involving a Confused driving instuctor on boat selling body parts.

That's rubbish. I read it and immediately wrote a sketch about a Mother Superior and a trapeze artist arguing about how to drive a snow plough. Across a playground ('Jam'-style touch, revealed by last-minute pulling-back of the camera).

Some of Smack the Pony was awful, I thought. But not all of it.

I'd agree with "patchy". But anything with additional material by about 20 people is always going to be patchy.

Apart from that series of Alas Smith & Jones in about 1986. Maybe.

I liked Smack the Pony. Yes, some of the sketches weren't funny, but some NTNOCN sketches aren't funny. Some Python sketches aren't funny. On the whole I thought it was funnier than Big Train (which had its moments)

Big Train had it's moments, like most comedy shows. Nothing can be perfect all the time. The Day Today missed the mark on occasions, as did Monty Python and any other 'classic' series you may care to name.
But that wanking sketch (which, incidentally, was written by Adam and Joe)was terrible.
