I'd bring back 'silk', 'steam' and 'balloon' and ditch 'neon' which I always thought was a bit boring.

And of course 'paint' wins the award for the longest serving BBC2 ident ever being the first to be shown on that Saturday afternoon.

I once saw an ident which I think was an intro to a comedy sketch show. It showed the 'paint' ident and then a man in overalls and a dripping paintbrush walked in from the right, having just throw the paint on the large number two symbol. What was it from? One of Alexei Sayle shows?

The BBC Branding has been used by several people to comic effect over the past few years. There was that Harry Enfield one where the replaced the soundtrack to 'Blade' with a dull thud. And on the Monty Python night they had a made-up BBC TWO ident with Dleese and Palin complaining that they weren't on BBC ONE. The pulled off the TWO bits and got a red baloon with BBC ONE written on it. ALexi Sayle's stuff had lots of odd things in it, like the opening titles appearing after the closing ones.

And of course, there was the time when Alexei Sayle's Stuff began with the opening titles of Juliet Bravo...

Before one of Spike Milligan's shows, presumably one of the later Q series I can't remember, the bottom of the stripey early-mid eighties 2 ident, was inexplicably sawn off, resulting in it looking like a question mark.

Kenny Everett redid the Thames skyline with bear breasts instead of St Paul's, Tower Bridge etc.

The current BBC2 ident is really unparodyable, since many "official" versions are parodies themselves.

There was the spoof BBC Trail for 'Heroin Galore' - all with BBC TWO at the bottom of the screen.

Wasn't Heroin Galore a Fast Show spoof? Don't remember a logo in that.

Yes it was Fast SHow. It wasn't the big '2' - but it had [B][B][C] TWO at the bottom of the screen for the start at least.

Some 2 idents have been very short-lived indeed. What about the Cut-Out one, that only lasted a couple of months in the very early days of them (91). Wasn't very good though anyway.

They rolled about a blue/green screen. But the 2s were so indistinct that you really had to look hard to see them.

They dropped the ident very quickly.

I hope the idents haven't got him. I'm frightened of idents. When I was really little I was snuggled up in bed and a dark shape apeared at the window. I pulled the blankets over my head but I could hear something approaching. I tried to lie very still and not make any noise but something grabbed me....and............xylophones.........blur of bulky fonts..............a big 'A'..........a big 'T'..............crashing coloured shapes...........nooooooooooo!...........a big 'V'......noooooooooooooo!

I don't worship idents at all. Never have. And I'm getting to the stage where I don't really care any more - I've got better things to be getting on with. Though I probably still have a soft sport for TV presentation generally.
