Viz documentary Posted Wed Oct 18 19:24:36 BST 2000 by Mr Griffiths

A question that's been raised before but not answered. Who was the presenter of that fantastic "behind-the-scenes expose" documentary about Viz shown about 10 years ago? All I remember is that whoever it was, was very, very funny.

Ask Viz - they must know (www.viz.co.uk).

I couldn't stop laughing when they mentioned 'you've pissed on your chips', as it was the first time I'd heard that expression.

As I am of the young-but-not-as-young-as-the-whippersnappers-who-frequnet-my-local-alternative-club-who-know-barely-any-songs-pre-1997 category (and I am, if you cannot tell, drunk) I would like to say:

Ooh, I could crush a grape!

I would also like to say it in a different thread.

Could you enlighten me a little further as to who he is? His name doesn't yield any info from search engines.

Or is it pseudonym?

Wasn't Keith Chegwin involved?

Yeah, first with Maggie Philbin, then with the au pair, but... oh.

Chegwin appeared as himself, claiming Viz destroyed his career through ridicule, and describing his pitiful new life of unemployment. The thing is, he did have a bit of trouble finding work around the late 80s, though that was his own fault.

I had me photo taken with Cheggers when I was 7.

I knew someone who said they'd seen Cheggers performing at Butlins in their youth. Apparently his act consisted of throwing sweets into the audience and nothing else. Wholesome fun, no swearing or nothing.

He was an alcoholic as well, so I don't know why he didn't have work thrown at him. Seems to work for lots of other entertainers.
