In America we had a lot of interest, but it belongs to which ever company commissioned it at the moment
In GB the Beeb wanted to commission a pilot, but we didn't think it was worth it, cos Jane Root didn't like TMWRNJ so why would she like more of the same in sit-com format. And to do a pilot that was not taken up would be the end.
Sky are friends with us, so who knows

>Sky are friends with us, so who knows
US? Is that you and Stew; or, you and Al? Or perhaps a happy multi-persona Avalon marriage?
>In GB the Beeb wanted to commission a pilot, but we didn't think it was worth it, cos Jane Root didn't like TMWRNJ so why would she like more of the same in sit-com format. And to do a pilot that was not taken up would be the end.
What did Jane Root hate about TMWRNJ? Or to speak more generally WHAT IS HER FUCKING PROBLEM?
There are a few L&H haters lurking around this forum, who clearly work in TV, so maybe we'll shortly find out....
L&H haters - I haven't noticed them yet. Maybe they're afraid of the slating they will get.
Show yourselves...
Have you now, or have you ever, said that TMWRNJ wasn't as good as The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer?
Not at all - Smell Of Reeves And Mortimer hada potential for greatness, and contained some excellent material, but unfortunately was riven with innumerable attempts at finding the next "you wouldn't let it lie", and by a childish and unfunny overindulgence in toilet humour, which did (and continues to do) Vic and Bob no favours whatsoever.
It's interesting that the better characters - Cox and Evans, for example - don't really seem to be the ones that get remembered these days...
Wasn't there supposed to be a Cox and Evans sitcom at some point?
In that Bruce Dessau (or whatever his name is) biog of R&M (which you've probably read anyway, but still...) it says that R&M wanted to do more with Cox and Evans, but their producer thought that French thing with farting (the name escapes me right now) was funnier and wanted to concentrate more on that. This is wrong. It is the worst thing in The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer. Fact.
Call me an idiot if you will [You're an idiot - The Forum], but who are Cox and Evans?
I agree - Papan and Le Corbusier were never amusing, and in fact there was no point to them whatsoever. They were clearly 'inspired' on Jacques Tati's Monsieur Hulot films, being basically the same but with an added element of 'hilarious' windbreaking inserted, and is there any actual purpose in just copying something that was brilliant to begin with?
Extremely funny warring councillor characters, with combovers that were seemingly capable of independent thought.
The one where they unveiled the new Paul Daniels Fun Bin is one of the best Vic and Bob moments ever...
I remember an NME or MM interview at about the time of Smell Series 2 where R&M are caught watching about five minutes of Fist Of Fun and basically saying, "We've got nothing to worry about there...". They were wrong there, frankly. (Compare TMWRNJ with, er...Families At War. Quite.)
Oh yeah, R&M also claimed in an NME interview last year that Mark & Lard are basically a rip-off of what they've been doing for years. (Again, M&L have been miles better more or less since the dawn of Shooting Stars...)
Disagree with me, then! :0)
I can't disagree with you... exactly right on both counts.
What upsets me is that ten years ago, Vic and Bob were as powerful and promising a force in comedy as the "On The Hour" team. Their original style was a genuinely expermimental mixture of outmoded forms of Variety Show/Music Hall presentation, and free-form surreal material. Unfortunately, unlike the "On The Hour" team, they threw it all away in exchange for fame and fortune...
Am I the only person who thought 'Bang Bang! It's Reeves and Mortimer' was actually quite good? Especially Barons' Nightclub, Fun Fun Fun, and the bit where they're trying to open the car doors to the tune of some piece of lounge music which is the funniest piece of music in the whole world ever...
ironically, I thought that the only funny person in the whole series was Les Dennis.
No, I'm not trying to make a 'clever' joke. He was really good.
I also thought 'Bang Bang' was great. Is a second series planned, or are they too busy with that Randall and Hopkirk bollocks now?
I agree about R&H - it just didn't work at all.
Actually didn't mind some of R&H, but thought Bang, Bang was mainly bad, apart from bits of Baron's Nightclub.
I think they should have persisted with the format of The Weekenders.
Wasn't it C4 and not them who passed on a series?
>Extremely funny warring councillor characters, with combovers that were seemingly capable of independent thought.
I was staring at that sentence for ages, thinking "What on earth is a 'com-bover'??"...mmm, sleep me no get much some...
I agree that Smell was brilliant in parts and that their character stuff is strongest. Although I liked the songs, too, and I don't care who knows it.
combover - strands of hair fashioned over bald pate
Yes, I did get it after a few seconds thought...
Ewar, there is much potential for crude innuendo in that statement...
<snigger>
Btw, my coccyx is less swollen today, almost back to it's old self. K-hyack-yack-yack*.

Oops. That was me. Obviously.
