Kingmakerdoglaugh, Melody Maker used to call them.
Didn't mind sticking them on the cover, though.
You must remember that infamous Suede/Kingmaker live review by Steve Sutherland - early '92. Italics and plain type. Dogshit and diamonds. Didn't that have something to do with Lamacq resigning from the NME when Sutherland became editor?
I thought he quit because he noticed working for R1 was an easy life.
Lamacq the man is alright, really. I've met him at 3 different gigs and he always listens patiently while I tell him one of his favourite bands are rubbish. It's a shame his favourite bands are rubbish though, because he gets to play them on thge radio. So I don't listen.

Have you seen the Lamacq thing at www.popjustice.com? There's a couple of minutes worth of amusement in there, fo' sho'.
fancy a fruit-based drink, Jon? I feel I owe you one.
Wasn't the guy off Babylon Zoo in Kingmaker?
Can anone verify this?
Sorry - he was in The Sandkings. Not that it's very important.
Kingmaker's anti-charity rant, 'Sick And Angry Children', which Sony forced them to take off the second album owing to its wilful atonality and controversial lyrics, is a work of sheer genius.
Why didn't they donate the advance for the album to charity, then pack it in and become care assistants, if it bothered them that much?
"controversial lyrics"
Would that be from a band who did an anti-Thatcher song 3 years after she'd resigned? Ever on the ball.
I accept that about their other output, but "Sick And Angry" children really hit the nail on the head.
I am not a man who is easily impressed by attempts to be 'controversial', as my loathing of a certain 'comedy' show should indicate. However, this song really did stun me when I heard it.
