No, as far as I know, Grantham's character is nothing to do with this storyline.

Bassini (or whatever his name is) works for a guy called Fallon, who Beech met at a card game, who tried to pass Beech dud money, & to cut a long story short, Beech found himself working for Fallon, basically trying to influence an investigation, culimating in the current storyline.
