I always enjoyed Phil Silvers as Biko.
Then there was "Nelson's Column", but that was rubbish.
I've seen a bit of their Whose Line.. impro-type show. Looked fairly good..
Not sure about sitcoms.
Their live comedy scene is a bit like the time before 'alternative comedy'. One of their best is a guy called John Vlismas who was over here for the comedy festival - nice guy who can stand tall on the world stage (has done Montreal once or twice).
Pieter-Dirk Uys is a god. No question, no argument. I have never seen a performer satirize every level of his society so savagely and, instead of being imprisoned, get praised to the skies for it. He's an Afrikaaner who can eerily impersonate both the Mandelas, Desmond Toot Toot (see "When I held you near..." thread), Presidents Botha and de Klerk, Eugene Terreblanche, as well as sundry other characters and types, and does so with searing wit - it's a testament to him that his material travels beyond his country's boundaries; he's done a show at the Fringe a few times. He's always on the money, and even a glimpse of him at work is enough to remind you that "satire" can still exist, and there really is a point to it.
