Mystery Science Theatre 3000 Posted Thu Oct 12 15:06:10 BST 2000 by 'Phil'

Are any forum posters familiar with this series? I haven't got cable/satellite so I've never seen it. Does it live up to it's (good) reputation?

Seen one ep and it was ace. Sounds a bit too post-modern and Theakstonish, the idea of having wise-ass comments over cheesy old films (surely that's what people watching them nowadays do anyway) but it seemed to work really well. It did make me laugh out loud quite a few times.

I didn't like it. Just found it a bit too predictable, and it dragged out too long.

One or two nice jokes, but poorly structured.

Apparently the episodes that have been shown over here aren't the best ones - according to American fans it went off the boil about three series before it ended. The Comedy Central eps, which have never been shown in this country, are supposed to be the real deal.

I saw the "movie" (based on This Island Earth) and it was painfully unfunny.
Maybe it was funnier on the radio.

I like it and the ones I've seen have been consistantly funny.

I think it's legit to have a go at cheesy old stuff if it is in fact cheesy. It's having a go at stuff that's old and implying it was cheesy that narks me ie. 100 TV Moments from Hell or whatever it was called.
