Re: Emmerdale vs Nuts+Bolts vs The Viewer vs HTV

This is only relevant to viewers of HTV Wales but i would be interested to find out what everyone's views are on the fact that HTV are displacing Emmerdale from its 7pm slot and showing it the following day at 5:30pm.
This is to facilitate the showing of it's own locally produced 'soap' Nuts+Bolts.
According to the press there are more viewers watching Nuts+Bolts at 7pm than there were Emmerdale!!!
So were HTV right to move a programme that has been a stalwart in its schedule for many years??
Would you like this to happen in your region?
Once again HTV has the guts to do things locally and i have never heard of a region producing drama just for a local showing - apart from STV with High Road but they have always done that.
Do HTV care about their viewers thats why they have given them their own local soap or are they just bitter that they can't get any network commissions and have to resort to this bullying tactic?

Well, Carlton made London Bridge, and Tyne Tees made Quayside, both of which were local soaps, but they didn't shift other programmes to suit. Indeed, TT put Quayside right up against Eastenders which contributed to it's early demise, so maybe that's why HTV have done this...

But High road is shown in Grampian and Border as well, and several other regions. UTV shows it on and off. It doesn't have a network slot like it used to, though.

High Road was originally comissioned in 1980 (I think) as a network soap.
UTV have often been criticised over the lack of a local soap (rival group TVNi promised one during the last franchise round).

Back in 1982 TVS had a regional soap called Radio...set in a radio station of course. It was aimed at that elusive young adult audience and scheduled a couple of days a week at 5.15.
Congratulations once again to HTV for putting the region first and using the eraly evening for local shows.
