I really adore htv for changing their ident and logos in the early 90's when their franchise was retained.
It went from a quite boring but brilliant design of the letters htv to make up a tv aerial to the rather sublime:-
_
HTVv glass like logo with it basically saying ITV but with a little extra block on the left of itv to make up htv and to signify it is a REAL dual region (unlike all the others!!! who claim they are) there was now two triangles making up the 'V' (one for west and one for wales!!!)
The new logo was simple, relevant and brought the company upto the 90's and enhanced new computer technology and they really haven't looked back since.
The way the colors of the rainbow shone out from behind the logo and that etherreal haunting music would really make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end!!! 10/10 full marks to htv
PS no-one else really seems bothered about their logos or graphical design lately? No-one has an actual designed logo around their name or abbreviation...the only other one i can think of is LWT - carlton doesn't really count as they have forced their Carlton logo on other areas where the significance of their logo is london. Singnificance being that the 'l' and 't' were different to prove that the half a million pound they spent on it had to have some meaning - which was lt=london television ie not relevant to the other regions...but what the hell.
i could go on but i won't
TSW 1982-1985, long version.

I agree. The logo is used very well with the ITV Hearts and I think that the change in logo in 1992 signified a change to HTV. Okay, so they don't produce as much network programmes as they used to, but they are dedicated to local programming and that is sometimes better than networked programmes (Nuts & Bolts, The Ferret, Barry Welsh...) They could never go back to the aerial now. As long as Carlton doesn't come over here.
WALES DOESN'T WANT CARLTON! WEST DOESN'T WANT CARLTON! Who does?
Border's B or "Chopsticks" logo 1995 - 1999 (a great shame this was ditched last year) - a good way of taking a basic logo and bringing it bang up to date with animation and 3D backgrounds. The Tyne Tees 40 ident also gets my vote, also the various thistle themes used by Scottish between 1986 and 1999, and Grampian's Saltire (1998 - 2000)- again, a basic logo, but with a nineties twist. Of the current bunch, the new Tyne Tees ident is top of my list.
The worst one had to be Channel 3 North East's - naff name, naff branding, naff music. 'Nuff said! Surely a lesson in how not to brand a TV station - thank heavens that Granada saw fit to get rid of it!
