Radio 1 comedy and music shows Posted Fri Oct 6 08:39:15 BST 2000 by TJ

Probably been done before, but...

We all know that some of them worked, and some of them didn't, but in my experience a lot of people seem to disagree on what did and didn't work. I'll throw down the gauntlet then:

Chris Morris, Lee and Herring, Armando Iannucci and The League Against Tedium were all brilliant.

Alan's Big 1FM was neither brilliant nor rubbish. Just mediocre.

Bits Of Last Week's Radio was appalling.

But what do YOU think...?

John Shuttleworth and Alan Parker were excellent.

The comedy content of Mark Radcliffe's show is usually pretty good, apart from the Cheesily Cheerful Chart Challenege, which he and Lard still insist on doing in Smashie and Nicey voices.

"Vague News" is quite tired. They ought to have dropped it a while back.

Don't listen to Radio 1 - but if you want good comedy listing and reviews, and even guesting - listen to London Live 94.9 FM (used to be the BRILLIANT GLR). Sean Hughes does a weekly show (Sun 10-12am and 1st Thurs in the month 10-12pm) and every Saturday they have a comedian 10-1 (although today is Terry Christian [ex.The Word]). They've had: Junior Simpson, Rhona Cameron, Mel and Sue, Jo Enright, Rich Hall (phoaw!), Paul Tonkinson, Adam and Jo... and the list goes on.

The Entertainment Zone (7-9 each week night with Gideon Coe) also has great guests - and they do great coverage of the Fringe.

They also get Mark Lamaar every Christmas Day - because he doesn't celebrate it.

Phill Jupitus used to do a show - but unfortunately has now gone.

Interested in this. Only heard it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. (Not really a R1 listener.)

Nigel Jay and Martin Henfield are, as I am sure you know, regional news presenters in the NW.

I'm planning to do something about them as Manchester personalities for my paper.

What's the general view of them?

Does anyone have any of the Radio 1 comedy shows available as mp3s? I'd really like to hear L&H and Chris Morris again.

[quite reaonable selection of comedy talent snipped]

I'd listen if I could, but the until-recently-known-as-GLR signal doesn't reach as far South as where I live :( I heard too that Boosh might have a show therein.

I could listen on the net I suppose.

By the way, you wouldn't happen to be the Chloe who was formerly one half of "Amy & Chloe" would you?

I have some Radio 1 Iannucci clips available at http://come.to/radiozone but they are not full shows. Morris and L&H files are available somewhere on the net - not sure where though.

Sheep - sorry you can't get the signal any longer.... it is still good (but obviously with the loss of Janice Long, Peter Curran, Phill Jupitus, et al, not AS good as GLR.

>>I heard too that Boosh might have a show therein

Nothing regular - they may have done the Saturday morning show (FYI = Dave Gorman doing this Saturday...sorry, you probably won't be able to listen).

Not that I know of - am I?
