They did this morning :)
Will this mean the birth of a completely new logo/ident for the show?
>Will this mean the birth of a completely new logo/ident for the show?
Yeah, they could use the generic ones, but hopefully we'll have a rotating 10 or something.
I think they didn't do it this week so that they could at least get some use out of the widescreen '9' titles!
Do I take it that this is an exciting time for the ident world?
>Do I take it that this is an exciting time for the ident world?
No. This it's the title sequence that's interesting.
Idents identify a television channel. No idents will change as the BBC Ten O'clock News will not be a television channel in its own right.
Thanks for your interest.

Anyway, insiders at the beeb seem to call them symbols, anyway.
I wonder what will happen to the titles. I wonder if they'll be radically different.

I doubt it. They'll want to preserve continuity with the other programmes. But they'll be champing at the bit to make radical changes. My guess is it will be less than a year.
I find many title sequences quite dysfunctional. Do you think the problems of the creators subliminally come through in your experience? Once I was even drawn to the word 'bastard' when watching the opening titles of 'Ready, Steady, Cook.'
>>I wonder what will happen to the titles. I wonder if they'll be radically different.

I'm sure they'll keep it 'similar' to the current in that News 24 is 'similar' to BBC ONE News. But I wonder will it be 'as' similar to the other BBC ONE News progs as the 9 is now.
One thing that does annoy me is that BBC Choice NI is keeping its news at 10pm, clashing with with the National News, though it is being cut from 30 to 10 minutes. So now BBC NI News is on at 10,10.25 and 11. Isn't that a wee bit silly?
BBC CHOICE Scotland has had the sense to bring it forward to Nine. I don't know about Wales.
BBC Wales actually has Choice News at Ten - with a Welsh view, which is good for me, but also international news too..
The idents they use look like the generic ones but just have a 10 instead of the 1,6,9,24 etc....
Hopefully they wont change Sky NAT, as I thought that is better than any of the others, even ITN.
>BBC Wales actually has Choice News at Ten - with a Welsh view, which is good for me, but also international news too..
I know, all three Choice progs have international news, even BBC NI's, Newsline Extra which still uses the same rotating map of Northern Ireland as it uses at 6.30.
I hear, from an inside source, that the Newsnight opt-outs will end on Friday of this week. Pity.
>BBC CHOICE Scotland has had the sense to bring it forward to Nine. I don't know about Wales.
According to Whats ON (BBC ONLINE) it's moving to 9 in Wales too.
As for Newsnight, whats on claims that Newsnight Scotland will still be there.

We'll see next week. I just hope BBC NI get their act together and move Newsline Extra to 9pm asap!

Although it doesn't do regional variations.

Legacy system. Will get turned off soon no doubt.

>what about the BBC clock will there be a ten o'clock version made?
London, Cardiff, Belfast and Glasgow have clock-generating machines so they can be used as they are. 10 o'clock regional clocks will be (presumably have been) made up for the English Regions.
Sky News at Nine anyone?
Should be interesting. With JT presenting the show standing up -- got to be a first for Sky, are they copying NBC Nightly News one wonders....but it means Sky is getting a new look :) -- Hurrah - at least they have said it will.
The Nine oclock one and Ten oclock ones will have new graphics, or so they said.....
The press publicity I've seen is pretty similar to now.
There's the Sky News logo with nine o'clock news written next to it.
Sky News Nine o'clock News is a tad clumsy.

I presume the beeb will be trailing News 24 at 9pm for a while so that viewers know they can still get the news at 9 - just over on News 24.
BTW, Who has more viewers, Sky News or News 24?
Sky News has twice the viewing figures of News24, It isnt easy to explain...but put simply.
The BBC takes viewers for News24 on saturday mornings, when viewers have weekend 24 on bbc two.
The government ruled that this was not fair and decided that it should work out what it was getting when it was not shown on bbc one or two, so it took ratings over a number of months and compared them to Sky and CNN.
Sky had twice the viewing figures of news24 and twice the reach (people watching for 15 mins)
SO therefore, Sky News has more viewing figures...
It is explained on a article at my site, at the very bottom of the page, www.davistom.btinternet.co.uk
Also, Sky Nine o'clock news looks good from the trailer, i think it looks and sounds very promising.
>Also, Sky Nine o'clock news looks good from the trailer, i think it looks and sounds very promising.
Haven't seen this, but I've noticed that the ITN channel are renaming their 'News at Nine' to 'The Nine O'Clock News with Julia Summerville' I presume she aslo still presents 'News at Eight' and 'News at Ten'!
Oh and did you see the special end to the last BBC Nine O'Clock News last night? The 9 changed into a 10. Looks like the titles will be identical apart from the number then!
>Oh and did you see the special end to the last BBC Nine O'Clock News last night? The 9 changed into a 10. Looks like the titles will be identical apart from the number then!
No, I'm hoping that was just a rough version to end off Friday's programme. And if you notice, the titles contain lots of small number 9s and clocks pointing towards 9 O'Clock.
>
>And if you notice, the titles contain lots of small number 9s and clocks pointing towards 9 O'Clock.
Never noticed the small nines but I did notice the clock. If they're being cheap they may use the generic one and just put a 10 in at the end.
Which is what they've done on the image shown on the BBC website.
At least Michael Buerk says "Ten O'CLOCK News" on the trailers.
>Which is what they've done on the image shown on the BBC website.
At the end of the News at One today, Anna Ford trailed the News at 6, 9 and 10. (The Nine being on News 24 with Gavin Esler). Each showed a clip of the titles and a mugshot of the presenter. The 10 seemed to rotate in in a different way from the nine. We'll see.
So are we all ready. Here's hoping I'm able to watch it tonight!
It was like the 9 with a big, fat 10.
What do you think about the insertion of regional news, like the 1 and the 6?
Not sure it really works.
At least here in the NW there were some OK stories last night, but surely it looks daft in a smaller region, like the SW.
Michael Buerk: Middle East summit in crisis, floods kill 19 in Italy
Local guy: Fishermen are miffed over grants
Local mayor resigns.
Incongrous.
But that's life, and to the fishermen, their families and friends, and the local community, their grants are more important than the middle east...
I thought the regional business was very smooth, and nice to see the lack of trailer (unlike the 1 and 6) before the local news.
>I thought the regional business was very smooth, and nice to see the lack of trailer (unlike the 1 and 6) before the local news.
It sounds really silly when the national presenter says "and now its time to cross to the BBC's Newsrooms across the United Kingdom" and they go to a trailer. On BBC ONE NI we get no trailer - it goes straight from the end of the six into the newsline studio for the headlines sans balloon. Though I supposeit would look a bit odd of Huw Edwards told you it was your news coming up and it went straight to a balloon with a local guy saying the same.
Apparently the English regions decided to bring back balloons at 6.30 in protest over the trailer. The start of the regional news seemed very odd after a trailer but without any continuity.
