Why doesn't someone organise a comedy festival in London? Posted Sun Sep 24 12:49:06 BST 2000 by Jon

... or anywhere other than Edinburgh. And hold it in May, so no students can turn up. Just get away from the idea that there is anything 'Fringe' or unofficial about the Fringe.

There was a London comedy Festival some years back, at the Riverside studios, which is owned and run by the same people who run the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh. There were some TV compliation shows.

Festivals don't work in big cities. For a performance festival to succeed it needs to take over the city. London is too big. No focal point. Never mind Jon, you can come to our festivals. (Melbourne Comedy Festival every April, Adelaide Fringe every two years Feb/March)

Ballarat Begonia Festival everyMarch. You can stay at my Mum's.
