Bob Downe and Gayle Tuesday

Another thing I saw in the FOF book was a ref to the shit Mike Smith quiz show from '95, "That's Showbusiness". Specifically: "Why not appear on That's Showbusiness even though no one knows who you are?"
That's right because they had Gayle Tuesday and Bob Downe on when no one had heard of them (mostly no one still has heard of them). Downe was actually introduced as someone who was "going to be appearing at the Edinburgh fringe" - he hadn't even been successful there at that point. I remember this because I was watching this with my aunt, who asked me who he was, thinking he was someone that a trendy young person like myself would have heard of, but I hadn't got a fucking clue.
Both of them got pushed by ITV for a bit in the mid-90s. The stuff I saw of them was never very good, and Tuesday got a slating from VLS, I recall. Have they given up/buggered off now?

Bob Downe has been seen on some typically poor fare on UK Play as recently as last year. In it he *tours* Britain, but it was so forgettable I can't recall much else, apart from a mincing Aussie in a tracksuit and some muzak vids.

The woman behind Gayle Tuesday was one of Harry Hill's sidekicks on his radio series, and turned up again in the last TV series as Bridy McGinty with the goat.
I thought she was quite good on the radio, but thought Gayle Tuesday was poor.
Her real name might be Brenda Gilhooley, tho I could easily be wrong.

The ovine one is right. I remember her also doing a sort of Sloane-ranger type character on something (she might have had her own show on ITV a few years ago...?) which was actually quite funny, even though the concept of Sloanes is somewhat dated.

Bob is far more entertaining as a live act, and I think his star shone brightest in the late eighties/early nineties (before dag fashion was actually in). I'm not a great fan of his telly work, but live he's definitely worth seeing.
He is actually a damned popular live act still, and I'm talking UK as well as Australia. Audiences love a bit of pizazz, a bit of showbiz, a bit of polyester trouser-wearing.
All this year he's been playing 500+ seat theatres in Oz. Wish I was as much as a has been as him.

Maybe I spent too much time on the dole watching Neighbours twice a day, but I loved it when you used the word 'dag' Janet. Talk some more Australian to me!
