>Are presenting not only that Animation thing on Channel 4 which might be quite entertaining (well their bit, and Futurama at least), but also doing Saturday morning on London Live (10am-1pm).

Pardon? Justin, I'm surprised that you only think a clip n head show and Futurama will be the highlights of C4's Animation week!
Still, I will be watching the show....
congratualtions

God no, that's not what I meant! Sorry. I just meant that, if Adam & Joe's animation prog is anything like as good as their 15 year overview of Channel 4, it'll be great. And I've heard nothing but good stuff about Futurama. Bit worried about "celebrities choose their favourite cartoons" though(what about celebrities choose their favourite accidents instead? Jamie Theakston has a safe dropped on him or something...)
I take it back, anyway.
>Still, I will be watching the show....
Point taken, and apology accepted.
I'm just very annoyed (again) with C4 over more poor scheduling.
>going back to A&J, if it is as good as their 15 years of C4 show, then it'll be something worth watching this Saturday....
>>what about celebrities choose their favourite accidents instead? Jamie Theakston has a safe dropped on him or something...)
I recently suggested this idea in a Carlton brainstorming meeting. I cited the exploding Anthea Turner incident, and the child/Vic Morrow decapitation scene from The Twilight Zone movie.... My proposed title was "Silver Screen Health and Safety Disasters From Hell"
I think they all thought I was joking, as I sometimes do in meetings to alleviate the boredom and give my hand a rest from doodling...
All I can say is that *(sighs)* as with The Goodies, the I Love 1970s season, Dr Who, etc; etc; it would have been better if they just showed the animations in their own right without the smart-arse or empty comments.
You can't say *Oh no, not another clip show* but then state *It's OK it's animation and not a cult sci-fi series*.
That comes across as sheer hypocrsiy - and gives broadcasters the excuse to not only shunt non-mainstream animation into graveyard slots, but to slowly remove it from the schedules.
It's akin to the Del Boy falls through the bar argument: Yes, no-one really minds it, but surely there's other stuff as well? hidden gems? Well, if it applies to comedy, it also applies to animation. Jonny Vaughan talked with a genuine passion about Yuri Norstein's Hedgehog in the Fog - but C4 won't be scheduling it, nor any other Norstein this week.
All I can say is that there is something very rotten in Horseferry Road these days, as C4 are only becoming increasingly arrogant and ignoring their remit.
Adam and Joe's show tonight absolutely stank the place out! Their tired routine wore desperately thin, yet they seem untouchable by criticism. They're now like Dermot O'Leary who seems to be trading off this the-presenter-everyone-likes PR angle despite the fact he is plainly a cunt.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed their regular show (although the last series was a bit shaky) and *loved* Adam Buxton's London Live guest spot on Saturday but 'Wanky World Of Animation' came across as a pointless effort, resting on their laurels. The strange attitude they held towards early animation seemed by turns enthusiastic, knowledgeable, hateful and utterly indifferent. They know their stuff but completely fucked up on this occasion.
I enjoyed lsat nights show - missed the first 10 minutes. But maybe it's because I haven't seen that much of Adam & Joes work, so I couldn't comment if it was tired old reworkings or resting on their laurels. I enjoyed the Russian animator discussing his influences. "darkness and drinking..."
There was a good selection of clips, most, but not all, fairly predictable though.
I also enjoyed the two animators discussing their work, and their examples (particularly the first drafts that kept getting rejected).
I noticed two script editors credited at the end - one was Lucy Porter (who is she? contributed lots of nonsense to I Love The 70s last night too).
Hmmm...are Adam & Joe losing their touch? This really wasn't up to much, was it?

hear! hear!
I dunno - I kinda liked it. To be honest there was too much of their 'characters' but the bits with BaadDad and the kids were funny, and whoever said that the clip selection was refreshingly free of cliche was spot on.
