They were John Hegley's band, from the early 80s. They did some Peel Sessions, dunno if they did any records. Anyone know anymore about them?

I saw Hegley perform in '93 (somewhere inNorth West London) with a variation of the Popticians. Great gig. Featured special guest Andrew Bayley playing the inflated-bin-liner with a fly swatter.

I would like to publically proclaim that I love and admire John Hegley more than decency allows.

The recording of "Toby the Armadillo" (may not be the correct title) from Hearing with Hegley with John & 2 or 3 people as The Popticians is truly wonderful.

Robyn Hitchcock produced an EP for them called 'I Saw My Dinner On TV'. The b-side, 'Grandad's Glasses', was performed by Hitch and Hegley on Mark Radcliffe's show in 1995.

They did release a few records, but that's the only one I have.

John Hegley frightens me.
