Blackadder Goes Forth Posted Fri Sep 15 09:35:22 BST 2000 by Jon

When Richard Curtis was on 'Desert Island Discs' he mentioned that they'd had objections to the idea of doing WW1 as a setting when they started. He said that Ben Elton's uncle (posh historian Sir Geoffrey Elton, now deceased) had written to him when the 1st ep was shown saying it was terrible to use it as a subject of comedy. But Curtis added that after the last ep, Geoff had written to Ben again taking it all back and saying how moving and marvellous it all was.

So there you go.

Anyone else seen the Blackadder film at the Dome? I thought it was quite good, but not utterly brilliant.

Unless it's transmitted or commercially released, I'm unlikely ever to see it, because I have no intention of visiting the Dome - unless the day comes when they blow it up.

Fair enough too, as it's rubbish. I only went because my work were running an event there.

Who wants me to tell them the plot of Blackadder Back and Forth?

BTW you can get a book of Blackadder Back and Forth in the Dome shop, you can buy 3 for the price of 2 if you're really keen, coz the Dome shop is having a sale due to the Dome have no visitors and all. The book has the script of the film, plus all the usual on the set photos with hilarious captions etc.

I think Sky also intend to release it on video through their own label, along with Harry Enfield's B.S.N.S. in time for Xmas, no doubt.

"Harry Enfield's B.S.N.S."

Right! I'd better start saving those pennies then.
No, mustn't judge a series after just one episode!
But i can't take anymore!

Ever had one of those days where you're so piss bored you have a conversation with yourself?

Yes, I didn't catch the writers' names but I suspect it was by Curtis and Atkinson rather than Curtis and Elton - didn't have Ben Elton's edge to it.
The basic plot involves Blackadder in 1999, conning his friends into believing that Baldrick's built a time machine from Leonardo da Vinci's plans. Surprise, surprise, the thing actually works and off they go changing history left right and centre.
Fry and Laurie are also in it, and there's a new set of lyrics to the closing theme tune.

PS Re the Big Tent: I quite like the Dome Show (Ovo)...I hope they'll take it on the road, or at least release it on video...
