Mr Buxted Posted Thu Sep 14 13:39:19 BST 2000 by Super Gnat

About 8 years ago there was a comedian on Loose Talk (I think) on R1 called Mr Buxted who was meant to be a cantankerous landlord. He told a few gags etc. but then went on to do one of the funniest comedy poems that I have ever heard about murdering Cilla Black. I can only remember the end when Cilla unlocks her front door and the killer is waiting in the porch:

Suprise, Suprise Cilla!
Then hammered down upon her head,
Cilla Black now Cilla Red,
And as she lay there in the mud,
She lost a lorra lorra blood.

Did anyone else hear this and does anyone know who Mr Buxted was in reality?

Sound like his career peaked with that slice of merciless satire. No wonder he gave up after.

I remember it too... but I don't know who he was!

It was actually pretty good when I heard it, perhaps I didn't manage to convey the timing, delivery, actual content of the poem etc. due to the 8 years having past since I heard it. Anyway, why am I trying to justify it to you when you think that "the boy with the Arab Strap" was one of the best albums of the 90s when it wasn't.

Could it have been someone called Nick Toczek? He did some poems on Loose Ends once and they were OK.

Or John Hegley.

I don't think that Boy With The Arab Strap is one of the best albums of the 1990s, not by a long chalk. Tigermilk and If You're Feeling Sinister were way better, and even they don't come close to winning the title.

Why on Earth did you think that I did???

It was Peter Baynham who played Mr Buckstead. Now you all know.

It was Jon who thought that (in the Music Sensation thread above), due to the unfortunate delay in my reply to him your message cropped in between. A thousand apologies for casting aspersions on your obviously excellent musical taste (I have been listening to both of those albums all day today in order to get me through a particularly tedious day at work).

That was me above by the way.
Was it really Peter Baynham? To be fair it didn't sound anything like him, if anyone I thought it was one of the people from Absolutely.
Well I really am astonished, but thanks for the info.

He sounds *very* Welsh to my ears. I have a tape of that very Cilla poem, which is great!

Any chance of obtaining a copy? I would be prepared to pay cash money to compensate for the inconvenience.
