>Is that REALLY Batesy's old masterpiece on Sky One, or just something that stole the name?
According to some newspaper listing I read, it is Our Tune, with Simon Bates.
AAAARRRRGGHHHHHH!!
Haven't seen it yet.
I never understood how it could carry on after MWE trashed it (on R1). But it did.
I remember when 'The Doors' came out, he did a special Our Tune for Jim and Patricia Morrison, culminating in 'Light My Fire'. Could have been worse. He could have picked 'The End'.
Yeah, it's Simon Bates and our tune on tv. Now, who asked for that?
On a darker note:
I once heard an Our Tune where part of the story was that a woman got raped by her vengeful ex. Bates came back after the record to say they'd had calls off men saying "Give us his address and we'll go round and sort him for you".
Never mind MWE - I think it was Chris Morris who killed Our Tune's reputation, if it ever had one, stone dead.
I've never quite got over the episode of the Radio 1 show where him and Peter Baynham discussed seeing Bates doing Our Tune for spare change on the street.
"wa-wuhhhhr-wuhhhhhhr-weaworrrrrrrrrrrr"
the trailers for it on sky one (when I'm at home - I'm a student, so I have to go to my parents' place to watch sky) were dire.
I just about lost the will to live each time they came on.
I can't imagine what the show is like,.
A friend of mine nearly ended up directing them. We've been watching them on and off (there's one every hour during the day) and they're pretty bad.
Not cheesy as such (given that it is Our Tune) but just rather badly made. They seem to have been shot in the kind of generic set (a couple of flats rather badly lit) ITV used to use for 'Community Service Announcements' ('Can you spare three hours a week to help out in Birmingham Hospice...'). the yo-yo-ing camera doesn't help either.
Bates is good as ever though. Makes Chris Morris' predictions from his Radio 1 series seem all the more convincing though.
...and this letter here's from Yim Joakum - we've changed your name to protect your ideniddy...
