Spectacularly mad?

After seeing Jimmy Savilles performance on Louis Theroux last night I began wondering how many well known celebrities have gone mad but that we never realise? I always thought that JS was a bit eccentric and perhaps a little bit on the sinister side but he is obviously mentally disengaged and free wheeling down a particularly steep hill of senility. However, this hasn't been a sudden thing as he's always been a bit weird. In fact the only person that I can think of as having spectacularly lost the plot is Mr Icke (who has his own website, by the way, which is odd in the extreme www.davidicke.com). Can anyone nominate anyone else who, suddenly and inexplicably lost it?

George Best on Wogan and Shaun Ryder on The Word.
Except those are both easily explained... bugger.

I suppose Tara Palmer Tomkinson on the Skinner show was slightly unbalanced and wasn't supposed to have had anything to sniff or drink beforehand.

I can think of an anti-example. Everyone thought Patrick Moore was lovably eccentric, but then he starts playing up to it with the monocle and xylophone-playing in a most self-serving way. What an old scrote.
