Idle' s Radio Five Posted Tue Sep 12 20:19:43 BST 2000 by Justin

Long before Five Live, and long before Radio 5, there was Radio 1's "Radio 5", Saturday afternoons with Eric Idle in about 1973-74.

Is anyone old enough to remember this? What was it like?

I wasn't old enough to remember that, either! But apparently, it was a spoof on DJ's: in one of those naff American books about "Py-THON", he described R1 as being the BBC's rock station, "about as hip as Dick Clark".

What a sharp parodist he was in the 60's/70's. What a terrible transatlantic hasbeen he is today.

I was going to post on here asking if anyone had any copies of it, but a copyright-obsessed American man frightened me off.

No, that was Eric Idle himself. That's what he sounds like these days.
